My front steel plate wasn't up to the job unfortunately. Need to try again or get it laser/waterjet cut in order to get the alignment

In the meantime I tried a carbon fibre plate. This is the back plate so I didn't pay much attention to the finish. However, it came out pretty well. I really like this so at the moment I'm thinking to go this route. I may change my mind tomorrow smile

Be very careful cutting carbon fibre the fibres released are nasty stuff if you get it in your lungs .

Re. The whining noise.

Could it simply be an over-tightened belt? I over-tensioned the alternator belt on my old Golf and it whined like it had a super charger, slackened it off and the problem was gone. It will almost certainly be that or some other bearing problem with something driven off the ancillary belt. You could always take it off an run it without for a few seconds to confirm.
I'll give that a go - thanks !
Nope - not related to the alternator or water pump. Sounds like it may be coming from the starter, perhaps it's not disengaging properly.

Yep, I use a mask. I'm taking the same precautions as fibreglass, I assume that's sufficient. *cough*

Finally got the interior finished. The heater panel needs a tweak but I'm pretty happy with it. Just need to get the engine tuned and then it's MOT time !

Notice the scratch on the front. We had some high winds that blew the garage door off it's hinges and it whacked into the front of the car. I was furious. I closed the door and couldn't go in the garage for two weeks !

The clock on the far left is still the old style until I can locate a voltage gauge in the same style

Heater panel needs to drop in a bit tighter but otherwise it's looking good

New harnesses

Thought i'd have a look at this section to cheer me up as i've sold my MX5 tonight - read from the start and loved it, what a fantastic thread/car! That first drive is going to be incredible!

Off to the classifieds I go...

Not knackered - just left in gear. Apparently the owner has had handbrake problems with previous cars and has picked up this habit !

Unfortunately , I've had to start again. The body is off and stripped. I've started rubbing it down back to metal. A bit more smoothing then it'll be ready for primer and paint. Panel gaps are far better this time. Think I'll stick with the previous colour.....
