What a lovely car this is going to turn out to be! This is one of the best build threads I've ever read. Good on you. thumbup

Ok. The car is home. First impressions on the paint? Well the job is better than I paid for, but not perfect. Overall I'm pretty pleased with it. So I got stuck in with the re build.
I'm glad you are pleased with it; the car looks great from here and you have put a lot into it.

I am having my own car painted at the moment (much slower than yours!!). The trouble is, really good paint with no flaws anywhere is breathtakingly expensive and completely unaffordable by most people. The sad reality is, most of us will have the odd flaw somewhere if we don't spend many thousands of pounds. On the plus side, almost all of the problems will probably be invisible to anyone but the owner. Everyone looks at their own car closer and more critically.

Can I ask what the imperfections are? It might be useful to me since I am going to see mine next week.

Hmmm. I obviously like the wheels, but I'm not 100% sure that's the right application.

I concur. On the E28 they work. On the E12...

Surely there must be some 15" cross-spokes that'll fit (i.e. the wheels what I had on my E32, as also fitted to E34 Sports back in t'day)?

However, I fear that my wallet may well be £10 lighter by May...

Looking really good so far.

I know it is far from finished, but your rubber door trims, seals and other rubber items could do with plenty of Einszett Gummi Pflege rubber trim restorer. Keeps them supple and black.

I think it's because of having the deep splitter, there's not enough dish on those 16s to work.

I just think they look slightly too modern.

At the moment I prefer the 14's. I will wait until the car is finished as it is sitting at a funny angle in that photo.

These are the same wheels on a finished car;

You'll only get a true idea once the front splitter is fitted I think Olly.
Also strangely enough I think the gold of that car complements those wheels. Also for me, that car above seriously lacks a rear spoiler !!

I've got the rebuild feature on that car in an old magasine. They guy does it for a living now I think.

Looking good either way Olly. Think the wheels will suit it when alls said and done!

I'm loving this restoration. If it were me, I'd be on the lookout for some Alpina alloys, as they are a bit more period:

Agreed.

It'll look good with those wheels, but when all said and done it would look better with period 'Pina's as above, imo.

I agree. But they are the best part of a grand, so I doubt they will find their way onto my car.

You need cross spokes.

Alpina wheels are sexual.

On an Alpina. Never look right on anything but, and I'm the sort of wrong'un who has no issue with a bit of mix and match.

+1. Having Alpina wheels on a non-Alpina often reminds me of having M badges on a 316i Compact.

They've been done to death. That's the problem.

Once again its the proles and their BK Racing 'Alpina' reps that have ruined it for the rest of us.
