Don’t I know it. Changed the injectors as part of an attempt to get it running properly but yeah there is a point where you just have to give up and either do a full restoration on the engine or give up on it. At least parting it out will help some others rather than just throw it in the bin
I can understand the predicament completely. There are just some engines that do not want to run properly no matter what you do, and others that seem to want to live no matter how long they're left or poorly treated. I've had a few sets of injectors and fuel rails rebuilt and flow tested which in itself isn't really cheap (though worth doing). Wasn't pleasant on a pre HE when all of the injectors turned out to be fakes!

Love a V8, but heard a Lister V12 XJS in Brentwood multi storey earlier this year, oh my what a magnificent cultured engine sound, knew it was a V12 immediately. They are special engines.

A Lister in Brentwood?! Now that I need to find!

Sad to see the V12 swapped for a V8, but I can completely see why you did it. Even just a set of injectors is expensive unless they're late ones!
It was this one

Doesn’t really look like a full fat Lister without the body kit and other mods

It caught my ear before I saw it, had that lovely V12 musical richness but a lot more than a standard XJS.

That green Lister has been touted unsuccessfully for a long time. Originally some time ago at Brooklands Historics Auction and then a few Dealers.

It’s TFD by a long way, it’s a nice car however and understated. I enquired on it once and there was no movement.

For me the wide body S like mine were the best, following on from that they went overboard with that hideous rear AND front end treatment.

They are even worse for rusting than a std S. That kit wash bonded on to bare metal and filled with foam. Quite shocking.

ah ok, I did wonder. I'd prefer that car on its original wheels I think, as those look a little large for it considering its a narrow body car (effectively)

Harry Metcalfe has a squadron blue XJC with a manual five speed behind the v12. He had the suspension upgrade done that my car has last year and has decided that this year the rough bag of nails is going to have a full restore “in a modern colour” and will be using the company where my car has been done. Updates on Harry’s Garage from March

I think it's a real shame he's going to change to a modern colour. Squadron blue is lovely and perfectly in-period.

He actually thinks squadron blue “dates the car” in his own words. Will be interesting to see his plans. He has been down at the restorer sniffing around mine

I really do like the squadron blue, but I'm curious to see what it comes back in. Mango could look interesting, or maybe something even brighter wink

I suggested Audi Merlin Purple and gold wheels so it matches his Project 8 hehe

Orange looks good on the xjc but not sure which interior colour would match.
Is it going totally custom including bodywork or just a change of exterior colour?

It’s gonna have some custom upgrades and stuff. Can’t really say what because he will be doing a focus on it on his YouTube channel starting from March

There’s a bit of me that was slightly disappointed when he said that he was not going to fit the Broadspeed kit. I totally understand why, but my god would it look good. It is top of my lottery win list, although I couldn’t bring myself to butcher a decent car though.

Custom upgrades eh. Can’t really think of anything original that hasn’t already been done. These 70’s cars don’t really do fibreglass add ons. The lister cars with their mechanical upgrades on the rear axle possibly together with an outboard rear disc axle. If it’s performance I would look at fitting a different rear axle to get rid of those horrible rubber vee mounts.

I love the racing broadspeeds but a road car with that kit looks awful in my opinion. I had loads of people trying to convince me to do it with mine

Agreed, broadspeed looks good on track but on road it rides far too high. If I started again on my own car, body wise I would fit a series 1 front but use series 2 height front bumper modified as quarter bumpers. Rear bumper have it trimmed to fit it closer to the body and delete the overriders. I personally like the original style rear arches but give them a flair to fit 10j wide rear wheels. Engine wise if money no object I would either have a steel cranked Jaguar XK six pot and all the mods possible to get it to rev and make a possible 400bhp or if a v8 conversion have the Jaguar 5.0 supercharged unit both with a suitable manual gearbox. Interior wise, just an update on what’s already there. Biscuit coloured leather as a nod to the original, use a double six rear seat and use that seat style in the front with later xj’s front seats. Pleat horizontal in the seats. Keep the dash top black but flocked as it does cause reflections when driving. The headliner in black also but pleated to match the seats in pleat width. The sides in black together with the door top trim as per Daimler but stitched leather rather than stuck on ambla. Centre console also in black stitched leather. Carpet and fur flex trim in black. I personally like a dark walnut dash with black face dials. Possibly fit chrome bezels to compliment original chrome interior fittings.
