Jaguar X308 XJR
Discussion
Your car looks great! I love the X300 XJR wheels, they really are a design classic, with a nod to the XJ220 wheel design.
Plus they featured on perhaps the coolest XJR of all, the Thrust SSC Fire Support Car.

Still desperate to get one of these at some point.
The last time I looked was about two years ago and i viewed 3 cars and I couldn't believe how rusty they were, and there were many more where the MOT repeatedly mentioned rust so I didn't go and have a look. I'm not talking about the cheapest ones either, some I looked at were between 7 and 11k 2 years ago. Peversley it's almost as if the earlier X300's don't seem quite as badly afflicted, on the face of it.
Now I know we are talking a 20+ year old car, but it still shocked me.
Need to sell another car but I really fancy a clean X308 XJR or I'll convert clean X300 XJR to manual - the shape just get's better and better! So much class.

The 300 and 308 can corrode badly and there's very few of either to be found now that are anything more than fast old smokers. Ones that are still in reasonably good nick will probably increasingly be in long term ownership and kept tucked away in garages and used sparingly. The additional problem with old XJRs is they're bought by people who like to see how fast they can make them go rather than how long they can make them last, and the effects of that over 20 odd years that can be ruinous if you're buying one to use and improve.
Your best chance is to keep an eye on the JEC classifieds and CarsandClassic and maybe classic car auction sites. You might still get lucky.
ETA. There's what looks like a good X308 XJR on CarsandClassic right now... For 14 grand.

Lovely story for a lovely car.
You've been lucky to buy this car again.
I've always had a soft spot for this generation of XJ, the best looking one in my opinion.
I've had the pleasure to drive an XKR with the same engine, the engine is very great, it was a real pleasure. The only disappointment was the key, the same as my first car: A ford mondeo 1.8td CLX...

Good ones are so few and far between now. We still have a black one that he’s had since 2003 that we know is the best 308 xjr in the country, because it is genuinely flawless.
However, there’s still something really enjoyable about smoking around in a £2/3k xjr. What other car represent that performance and comfort for that money
Quick update, car is still great and is hibernating away in the garage. Cannot wait until the weather gets better and I can take it out again. Ahhhh.
Will try to get some pics of the Alcantara headlining, but I’m a rubbish photographer and haven’t managed any good ones yet!
Here is the car pre-winter. Hopefully it will brighten up soon!
