I know.

Since I've started, you've bought yours, recommissioned it, and it's been on the road for what, 6 months now?

Oh, hang on...

No news really, no. Nothing was likely to happen in the build up to Le Mans, and sure enough, it hasn't!

It did occur to me the other day as I surveyed the pile of parts in the garage that there was something missing, and that something turned out to be a radiator, so I've got one ordered and on the way to me.

And just to prove I wasn't fibbing, here's the rad:

Stupid cretins don't include a rad cap with a new rad, though. Peasants.

Nice to see another E28 being refreshed. I'm seriously lacking in motivation to finish (if there is ever such a concept) mine, but I have a one-step-forward-two-back situation where I have a freshly MOT'd car with major electric issues to sort!

Nope.

Need to start putting it back together over the next few weeks with a view to shipping it off to get the running gear in.

I'd been waiting on completing a couple if jobs before sending it off, but realistically work required on the rest of the fleet mean it'd be post-Xmas before I get to it, so they can do it when it's up on the ramp instead.

Well, after some thinking time, some perusing of other M52 build threads and a general sorting-out mentally, it's with heavy heart I must finally conclude that I'm not going to M52 my car.

The engine had been pretty central to this project, but as much as I don't want to admit it, it isn't right.

So I've pulled the plug.

Sorry to those who've followed this, hoping to see an M52'd E28 - the bottom line is that it just isn't going to happen.

Hmmm, I can see your point.

I'd get a M20 from a 525e and fit a head from a 325i.

I threw a complete wiring loom and ECU for a 325i in the skip last week. Didn't think I'd ever find anyone who'd want it :-\

Thing is, I don't want an M10, M20 or M30 in there. The point of the car was to be a modernised classic, where it could be put into daily service if required without worrying about 30 year old tech.

Plus I'm really not a fan of the M20 and M30 anyway, and although the M10 that was in there had charm, it had very little go.

I didn't keep what got pulled out, so there's no chance of refitting it anyway. Think the gearbox ended up in Brazil, bizarrely.

It's a shame, but it would have been a lot of money to spend on something that ultimately I knew wasn't right. The job of flogging bits on now starts...

You're going to break the whole car for parts then?

That's better.

Wheels went of for refurbing this morning, too:

Should be ready to collect mid-August.
