Thought so
So actually, my question is gonna cost you some extra money?
Hows about I swap you two 6.5's for two 7's?So actually, my question is gonna cost you some extra money?
That way we both get nice tucked front wheels with loads of clearance for steering AND wider track out back sporting the 205's?
You know it makes sense!
Meet you halfway, say...nurburgring?

Haha, loving your definition of halfwayThat way we both get nice tucked front wheels with loads of clearance for steering AND wider track out back sporting the 205's?

Hmmm, I don't know... Anyway I still have to buy some rubber to wrap them in, then I'll see how they look.
I have done another trial-fit, this time jacking the wheel up to the right rideheight (well...right as in "curent monstertruck-status")
Front at 32cm hub-to-fender, 1mm of space between the piece of wood and the highest point of the wheel
From the back at 36 (or was is 38) hub-to-fender
Fitment in the rear
So you've gone from looking at pricey wheels which will offer a small weight saving at a fairly big cost - to looking into a staggered wheel set up with very nice offsets and at a much smaller cost.
Result!
My plan is to mount 195's to my E30's all round, then when I wear the rears out (quickly - they're already heavily scrubbed from a car control day) I'll fit 205's at the back.

Don't fancy swapping two of your 7's for 6.5's do you? Result!

Afraid not, I either have big plans for them (all will become clear in time) - or I'll be forced to sell them at some point if money gets a bit tight... easier to sell as a set. I also have no clearance problems as I have a mk2, which seems to have a similar inner arch space to the grand canyon (comparitively!)
Good luck finding a pair though, I've seen several individual ones go on ebay for 20quid a pop. Then you have spare fronts too, or could ebay them to offset the cost?

Not the best VID.
I borrowed a mates GoPro but the plonker forgot to give us the memory card
this was done on flip video, The narrow field of view doesn't communicate the sense of speed very well.
Either that or Im just slow!

Just getting back onto the car. More weight saving going on.
-Cut out inside of doors
-Cut our inside of boot, Binned hinges and bolted down
-Ditched petrol flap cable release
-Removed glass quarters, Polycarb ones on the way
Also picked up a BARGAIN bucket. Not tried to fit yet but measurements look ok. Fingers crossed!

Finished the interior and got the car out on track on friday.
Went really well:

Need to sort the bonnet out though! I cut all of the inner skin out and it's not so flexible air coming in through the indicator holes is forcing it up at the sides.
Just a few jobs to sort out before Oulton Park Next month

Ah Scho! I can't wait to do something similar to my '5 in the coming year & a bit! Looks superb stripped out like that, I have to confess I haven't kept up on this thread. Aside from stripping it back to the bare bones have you done any modifications under the bonnet? Or is is still stock?

Don't blame you, I've not updated it since april The engine is still the standard 1600 116bhp. All I did was cut the snokel out and create a cold air feed from the indicator hole. Exhaust is standard.
Planning a mk2.5 conversion over the winter so didn't want to waste money on a system that might need bodging after only a couple of trackdays use. Once the new engine is in fancy fitting a straight through pipe exiting dead centre to weight. I'll see how loud that is and maybe get one of those adjustable bungs to keep the noise down if need be.
Once all that's on I'm hoping for 140-150bhp and 750kg
Spent the last couple of nights tidying a few things up which got missed in the rush to get ready for Angelsey.
Mainly tidies the wiring and finally got rev counter working!
Fitted the arm restraints after watching that horrific MX5 cup crash
Out at Oulton next saturday and the car isn't in bits for once
