Tim,I just had a look at your profile and you seem to have a nice collection of cars!
What is your motivation for the Leaf test? Are you just trying out the technology, or are you thinking of getting one for the family?
I am interested to see what others think of EVs after actually trying them out rather than just quoting Clarkson, etc.
My prime motivation is to see if one of these can handle the drudgery of our rather lengthy school runs. I will have the answer to this question by 5:10 this evening. I really have come to resent wasting large chunks of cash on these types of unavoidable journeys in inappropriate vehicles That's it really. The Leaf would never be an only car, rather an additional, and it is one of a few options I'm considering.
Running a "leccy" car seems to be a bit hit and miss. Many pros and many cons. My major reservation would be, when the car is at the end of its life, how, and where, and how much will it cost, just to dispose of the batteries ?
A few years ago, a University somewhere did a comparison cost per mile of the Prius, and a Hummer based on actual cost to manufacture and run for 3years, 100,000miles to see just how "green" the Prius was. Apparently the answer was quite shocking. When taking into account everything included supply of raw materials, shipping of raw materials, running the vehicles day to day, the Prius cost 3 times as much per mile than the Hummer. Not so green then really...........however, I'm struggling to find the article, so if some-one finds it, please post it on here..........because otherwise, I may have dreamt it !!!

Load of rubbish, the hummer was based on 300k life and the Prius 100k.A few years ago, a University somewhere did a comparison cost per mile of the Prius, and a Hummer based on actual cost to manufacture and run for 3years, 100,000miles to see just how "green" the Prius was. The Hummer has more lead in its acid battery than the Prius has nickel.
