Ok, I'll ask the daft question - what's the purpose of the second rear glass?
Keeps the cabin warm as in a saloon when you open the boot, but still gives you hatch practicality.

I believe they did it as the French liked using big Citroens as ministerial and VIP transport.
Possibly something to do with the climate control too, seeing as IIRC only models with climate control have it.

Possibly also stops that big glass rear window acting like such a greenhouse?

After a week of having the car insured temporarily, I today switched my policy from my old car to the XM. My fully comp insurance for the year is a grand total of 213 quid. Pretty damn chuffed with that.

No, the rear glass behind the outer rear window.
From the time IIRC it was so rear seat passengers didn't get chilly when accessing the cavernous boot. Of course, it also increases the sales of window cleaning products, so was probably sponsored by Windowlene.

Oh wow. You've got me checking out C6 V6 HDi prices, and I want a hot hatch and to move away from French cars!

My Dad had a new XM Estate when I was little. '93 on an 'L' plate, Emerald Green Metalic, 2.0Si. The interior snaps have got me thinking back, the two screens behind the wheel, the big, fat stalks with slider for the lights, the Immobiliser Keypad, Suspension ride-height slider, the crazy steering wheel with the chunky buttons and the pop-up panels over the radio...

My Grandpa had two, an early 'Saloon', which I don't remember and then a late-model 2.5TDSED Estate in Polar White, which I do.
Just found out that it was a Turbocharged 2.0-litre. 2.0Si Turbo Estate, 145bhp, 9-second 60mph sprint, not at all shabby!

I've dug out all the sales, technical, colour scheme brochures for 1993 etc, I'll try and scan them in tomorrow.

Same engine as mine. It's really not very quick.

2.0i N/A lump came in base, Si and SEi.

2.0i CT Turbo lump came in Si, SEi, Onyx, Prestige etc etc.

Early CT lump had 145bhp, later had 150bhp. Fair amount of grunt, but little in the way of power. Smooth though.

Little bit of fettling yesterday.

First was a new set of plugs.

Next was removal of the old (crusty) leads

Replaced with nice new blue ones

I then changed the front spheres to try and rectify the slight issue I'm having with the ride....it made little difference.

I have covered 1000 miles now tho.

Top car, top thread. Yet to own a non-Peugeot Frenchie, but do fancy something with hydropneumatic suspension if nothing else just so I can play with it.

I used to think powered ashtrays would be the apex of automotive achievement, but now I've seen this I'm going to re-calibrate my thinking...

Not sure how I missed this thread for two weeks, glad I've found it now. Great read. Having being brought up on Citroen's, I love reading things like this.

Same here. Parents had 2 ZXs and 2 Xantias when I was a nipper, I always wished they would get an XM but alas, it never happened.

My parents had numerous GS', Visa's; 652cc, 1100cc & three GTI's(1x 105ch, 2 x 115ch), BX 1.4e, CX Pallas, Turbo & Turbo II's, Xantia V6 and finally a C5 V6. And they are the ones I can remember. I know they had a DS Familiale, DS saloons and for a brief period a Traction Avant.

It's funny. My parents don't get Citroens with their "hydroelastic" suspension. Can we swap parents?
