Excellent, I look forward to seeing it start, I too have a thread on GT40s.com but this is my fave...just letting you know i will be following this thread with great interest. i will have to start a GT40 build thread of my own shortly once things move along some more (body bits are in the shed now)

What are you plans for your car and what make is it? DRB or Roaring Forties maybe?

Saw a new CAV GT40 at Goodwood. Was very very nice quality. A lot of car for £85k.
A kit build like this would be brilliant.
For those interested I think there is a gulf liveried rep for sale - though I think it has a period engine from an original gT40.
Is it the one on ebay for 40k? If so doubt dry much there is an original engine in it for that money!A kit build like this would be brilliant.

Plenty of GT40 replicas have been built with period 289/302 blocks. They made many thousands of them!
Not that many C6FE-6010-A or XE-136505 blocks around in comparison and they're worth very decent money.
Of course the 'period' common 289 had little in common to the actual 289's in the GT40! Far better off with a Boss 302 which was far closer to the GT40's 289's (higher nickel content iron, thicker castings and cast steel rather than cast iron main caps).

Not sure i can say just yet. havent got a chassis just some body bits (all 9 of them ). Roaring Forties are just down the road so i need to find time to go for a visit. i need to get the 4 latches that hold the clips closed, you wouldnt have a lead on where i can source thoes would you. What are you plans for your car and what make is it? Try and find an Embraer 190 on the tarmac and have off with a few. You could try contacting this guy - http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/mark28576?_trksid=p20476...
They are totally ridiculously priced though, about £500 for 4 last time I looked (about 2 years ago).
Personally I used a different hartwell latch, like these only I paid £5 ea http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141335372175
Hi mate,
i took these last weekend at MotorEx in Melbourne. Its a bare Roaring Forties chassis with a coyote engine and Audi transaxle in the back. hope they are of some use.
BOSS 335 engine thats going into the last of the Hypo falcons.
note harop charger sitting in the valley
the laser cut pannels on the chassis come with all the holes laser cut as well so that you can use them as a drilling guide.
Regards Ryan.

the shifting felt very good on it, that bit bolted to the top of the shifter ball mount in the cockpit was the reverse lockout. just lift the ring below the shifter nob up to clear the flat plate and you could then get reverse.
i presume the mount allows the gearbox to rotate with engine torque but takes vertical load preventing it pulling the clutch out of alignment.

I'm looking to do a rod change rather than a cable myself but may end up with a cable setup. Certainly if well done they can work nicely.
I'd doubt it would pull the clutch out of alignment, the gearbox is bolted very securely to the engine with dowels to ensure it locates properly and the gearbox donor original's after all mounted to the side (Audi A4/A6, Skoda Superb etc).
Mine is on rubber blocks so it can move with the engine.

Nice pics and looks like a great chassis, is that the same spec as what you are planning to build? The shifter looks nice a similar to the SouthernGT one I will be fitting, rod shift too like this:
I beleive it's an exact copy of the orginal GT40 one made in house as Mick (SGT) is running an original shifter in his own car, any like the one you show incorporates a reverse lockout.

Really liking this project.
Very very tempting if new job works out to look into doing one of these.
Quite a few options re: suppliers, no?
Superperformance, Southern, RCR all have good reputations don't they? CAV product looks good too - though you cannot self build a CAV I think.
All good manufacturers but only Southern GT in the UK, Superformance are in a different league really, 100k cars and are only sold as complete cars minus the engine and transmission, RCR are good and I went out in one the other day but require a fair amount of change/adapting from the supplied kit to pass out IVA test, Tornado is another UK option but not a route I would personally go...
