1987 Peugeot 309 GTi (that I've not actually seen yet)...
Discussion
The passenger door is coming along nicely, the new wing and boot have their coat or primer and the rest of the car is being worked on. I can't wait to see it painted!
Still struggling to find an interior for it, proving to be really hard to find. I've been quoted for a re-trim but I'd rather fit original style material.

That's superb! Strangely I collected my car and paid cash in Exeter airport sight unseen from Edinburgh!
A great combination you have there, there's something nice about enjoying a low value car you like - yeah you might get bits and bobs done here and there as and when you fancy them, but without the millstone of depreciation the overall cost is a fraction of running a newish Golf tdi. And so much more enjoyable (mostly!).
I love having old cars just for this reason! It'll be an ongoing job making the old Pug nice and fresh looking. I can't wait to get the old girl back on the road again. It's always an adventure driving an unknown car a huge distance after buying it unseen, I reckon everybody should do it at least once in their lives...!A great combination you have there, there's something nice about enjoying a low value car you like - yeah you might get bits and bobs done here and there as and when you fancy them, but without the millstone of depreciation the overall cost is a fraction of running a newish Golf tdi. Bravo old boy!
Cheers Olly! Thanks for all the kind words. You are more than welcome to see it when it's finished!
Once the bodywork is done it'll be on to the oily bits. The biggest issue is now finding interior trim, ten years ago it wasn't a problem, now it's nigh on impossible. I'm considering buying a second one if one comes up to use as spares. The annoying thing is a couple of ratty early three door MOT failures were on Ebay recently and I didn't get my act together quick enough.

Love it, starting to go up in value too. I am getting my Steele grey 205 quoted for paint tomorrow.
Try 205 nuts for interior.....they are brilliant, I got mine from them
It's nice to hear about all these old Pugs being restored and refreshed! You'll have to get some pictures up of it being painted.Try 205 nuts for interior.....they are brilliant, I got mine from them
Thanks for the tip, I'll try 205 Nuts and see if they can help.

Thanks for the link, that is brilliant. I am actually fairly lucky as my car came with all the original books, folders and a massive stack of history including an original brochure with hand written notes in it by the original owner who was pricing up what he wanted!http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200904111499?ssPageName=...

Fair play, it's great when an older car comes with loads of paperwork and history....good luck with the rest of the project
Cheers rowey, I appreciate the heads up. I'm keeping my eye out for loads of 309 parts at the moment and it is great when I get links like that. I should get some more pictures next week so I'll be able to update on the progress.rossub said:
Cheers Ross, that's great! I do love good old fashioned adverts like that!Another little update.
I'm having all the plastic bits painted black as they look crap and even after cleaning up will just go fifty shades of grey again (ooo err) once left outside.
The paint being used acts like an etch primer that eats slightly into the plastic so it shouldn't suffer from the usual lifting, cracking and peeling that you find with many painted plastic parts.
The mirrors have been completed, the bumpers and other trim parts have been primered.
I've also found a brand new bonnet which is being delivered at the weekend. A new early type interior has been found but it's in London, which is a good 600 miles from me!

It's great to see someone restoring a 309.
I'm just a little north of you not by much though, and between me and my brother we have had quite a few 309 gti's including a couple of Miami ones and even a Goodwood. The last one I kept for 5 years before I sold it to make way for my Toniq R.
I would love to have a look at your's in the flesh when it's finished, might make me want to get another though.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks van cleef. As soon as the car is finished I'll get some nice pictures taken and get out and about in it. I'll be happy to let you take a poke around it. Still a long way to go after the interior is done though as I'll need to get the interior done and also the oily bits tidied up.I'm just a little north of you not by much though, and between me and my brother we have had quite a few 309 gti's including a couple of Miami ones and even a Goodwood. It really is a fantastic looking car, if I can get mine looking half as good as that I will be very happy.
I like your Miami blue car too, I always liked that colour.

Ahh, takes me back to.....er.....about 12 years ago! I set my heart on a black 309 GTI at the time . Loved it to bits, but it destroyed me financially as I was at uni at the time. Head gasket failure and the need for a replacement rear axle to name a couple of issues. Such a rewarding drive when running right....I seem to remember the throttle response was awesome!
I did a similar thing in 2000 when I was at uni. Though my money pit was a bright red Rover 220 Coupe which cost me an absolute fortune in broken bits. My mates called it 'The Big Red Money Eating Machine'! I loved that car.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
