Rover 75 Diesel Bargain
Discussion
Just a small update on my bargain Rover. I ended up buying a steam cleaner for the interior and I did everything inside. The results are amazing. All of the very dirty cream plastics have come up amazing! I also steam cleaned all of the door closures and the alloys, can't believe how good these steam cleaners are.
Mechanically it's running great, it's quiet and very smooth to drive. The only issue is like a "ghost sound" occasionally that can be heard inside as well as outside. God knows what it is but it's quite funny as people stare! I was thinking along the line of the power steering making the noise but then a part of me thinks it could be the climate control? Any ideas?

The noise is like a high pitched "whoo" noise, it's strange! Just does it randomly. Everyhing seems to be working fine but I thought the power steering was whining but it could be me being paranoid!
I treated the car to an oil and filter change today (did myself). The old oil was filthy and felt very slimy. I also gave it another wash! I added some fuel cleaner in to see if it would make it anymore responsive. It's not slow when it's going, just doesn't seem as quick as I thought it would be.
I'm still very fond of it though, 126,000 miles and it's smooth to drive with no rattles at all. Definitely was a good buy.

Just a small update really. Managed to track a boot lid down for only £20 so that is now fitted (wasn't easy). It's definitely added value to the car as it no longer looks so tatty.
The car has been performing faultless, I have now done around 2000 trouble free miles. Recently went down to WSM for the night from Merseyside, below is the picture of the miles covered and how much fuel it used. I'm sure you will be impressed as I was!

Just a little update! Car still going, now done over 2000 miles in just over a month! Smokes a little for a few seconds when first started (blue) but only when it's been standing for 8 hours after work. I'm also topping the water up about a pint a week but apart from that still faultless. I'm still enjoying it but just wish it was that little bit quicker! Tomorrow I am treating it to another oil and filter change then a trip to London from Merseyside is planned to see Morrissey at the end of the month. I still think I got a bargain and the car looks like it's worth alot more which you couldn't say about a 300 quid Vectra!
Little update! I've done just over 3000 miles now since September so mileage is just over 128,000 now. The car has been faultless, not used any water since the last update which is great.
Its due 2 rear tyres as they are coming onto the limits but they seem pretty pricey so may go down the part worn route.
I still like the car (I honestly can't recommend a 75 Diesel for those wanting a cheap work hack) but been looking at the first generation Lexus IS200 recently a little too much. I think fuel economy would be a big downer for me.
Will post some new photos tomorrow after the weekly wash, polish and hoover at the hand place up the road!

^^oops yep that's what I meant!
In fairness I'll probs keep this for a while as it's so good on Diesel and my mileage is going to cut down to around 4 miles each way now for work but I'll have all my other pottering about to do still!
Must go test drive a Lexus though and hopefully be disappointed to get the idea out of my head :-)
