Bah, the originals are horribly expensive.
They are more expensive, yes, but if you spend enough time looking you can find good deals. And obviously you get your money back when you sell the car and get rid of the wheels.Negative Creep said:
blimey, a surprisngly positive reaction thus far Can't really justify spending the cost of the car on wheels, even if I can resell them. Think it will be a bit too new for the likes of Slotmags or Rostyles however. When my BMW sells (or rather if I can ever bloody shift it) I shall start the hunt
Don't feel bad, Neg, I've always had hankerings for square cars. I give you the ever awesome, Nissan Cedric!ChiChoAndy said:
As time goes on, and you get over 30, crappy old cars have a cool factor all of their own! Great.
Seconded and I turned 30 earlier this year! I remember my friends Dad having one of these. All I can remember was my mate telling me it had a 20ltr engine and could do 140mph as that was the top figure on the speedo
He was quite gutted when I told him it was only a 2ltr car. Not sure he believed me!

Luckily my starlet came with Work Equip 01s on it. Tempted to sell but no idea how much for. £800+ seems a bit high, but lower seems too little. Bluebird looks like a good buy, must say i agree with going down the proper old style jap wheels though rather than rota copies. Not seen a well modified one yet.
I would love an old jap smoker like this, it would be ace to put a new engine in and tune it up, but I think a sports exhaust and some nice wheels would be enough - the chassis on these things will never cope with much power, surely they would bend like spaghetti under duress as they were made with no sporting ambition at all.

These old Japanese cars seem to run forever, I am just selling mine due to no longer requiring but I tell you something the build quality is second to none !
I spotted this as soon as the advert went up, I must admit I've been trying to find a reason not to bag it as a sensible daily driver. Is 3 cars too many when I only really need one...?

What's the specs/condition of the 01s?And I agree, the price OP paid for the Bluebird is a bargain. Great buy.

pretty good, some paint peeling on the inside of the spokes which ill be sorting soon. main prob is theres some corrosion under the clear coat on the face of the spokes. but the lips are all in decent condition. And I agree, the price OP paid for the Bluebird is a bargain. Great buy.
I love these cars!
Probably because I started my career post uni with Nissan Motor UK up in Washington..... I may have even fixed the wing mirrors on to the one you have back in '85/86 when we were assembling CKD kits from Japan.
The first two weeks of a grads career with NMUK was on the shop floor, irrespective of your role, and I spent a week on the doors-off line fixing on mirrors. Absolutely brilliant time and I still have very fond memories of the cars we built.
Despite my cack-handedness, I do recall the quality of what we were building in those days was streets ahead of Ford/Vauxhall etc. My very first 'fast car' driven was a Bluebird Turbo with, if I remember correctly, all of 132hp, which at the time was a lot.
Good times. I wold love to buy a Bluebird Turbo or Silvia Turbo now....

9000th post so I might as well post an update and some crap pictures. An incident with a LHD trucker means the bumper is now managed and needs replacing, but other than that is running well. I don't know what it is but despite having owned more PH worthy cars there's something about this that I have an irrational liking for, and the fact it has no sporting pretensions whatsoever just adds to the appeal
Been after some wheels for a while, but finding period wheels in the correct fitment and offset is rather hard. So I found some which are the correct period and fitment, but not offset.
Tyres are too big so am trying to work out what profile I can get away with, especially as it urgently needs lowering. I have no idea what the wheels are off but hope I can get around the offset problem, especially as I have to use 5mm spacers on the front to clear the calipers. Once the stance is sorted I'd like a subtle rear spoiler, sort the bodywork then that should be pretty much it.

Long time since I've posted an update, but the car is still going brilliantly and refusing to go wrong. Old wheels didn't work due to the offset so bought some Primera wheels. They weren't in very good condition so rather than referb I just bought set number four and resprayed them. I know the colour won't be to everyone's taste, but I'm really pleased how they turned out. Also added a rear spoiler from a Lada Riva. Should be lowered come payday, and I have a few more shows lined up. Since that's as far as I'd realistically take it, it will be up for sale in a few months.
This was a Japfest yesterday, where it was unsurprisingly the only one there. Also had a couple of kids asking me about it, one of whom exclaiming "I like the way it has one of those old fashioned key things". I feel old.........
