I have been reading the owners club forum and as the engine is basically a evo 3 without the turbo, there are quite a few tuning options available. A turbo kit brand new is a grand from the US OR £350 second hand.

It is basically a Mitsubishi colt underneath.

Looks like a bargain to me, the ONLY Proton I would ever contemplate owning and the only I've ever liked thumbup
Nah - Persona SRi - st hot rare -only 250 of each made 4dr /5dr plain jane looks -AND the same 133 bhp GTI engine smile
No, nice idea, but no. The Persona takes plain Jane to whole new level of tedium.

There are a lot of bargains about with cars currently. You got one and I hope it gives good service. Well done. Car prices particularly with the less well known brands will be rock bottom this year.

Looked at these a few years ago, looks tidy and a bargain buy!

Aren't they a bit steep insurance wise? - Something daft like a group 16 / 17?

group 31 whatever that means, so about 13-14 old system but most cars i have had are around this mark.

Great purchase! Keep this thread updated smile

A mate of mine is a bit of a Mitsubishi Colt nut, and I've always shared his passion for these smile

I remember when these first came out back in the late 90's iirc. I use to take the (then) girlfriend to the local Proton dealership on dates just to drool over car. She couldnt figure out how someone (me) could get so excited over something with 'square exhausts'. I was young and easily impressed. Needless to say the relationship didnt last.

Showing as 16 - should not be more than 15 at best .16 taking the mick
31 is new system out of 50 (basically double of old rating) - but Direct Line seem to be only one using 50 system

i work out in Malaysia where 9 out of 10 cars are Proton, there are soem seriously rapid ones out there, Perdana V6 is a popular conversion and two of the local lads in the office have evo engined ones... 300bhp and FWD with no diffs.

at that age and price i dont think they are too9 bacd, reckon it might make a cheap interesting track car.

They offered a dealer fit Eaton supercharger kit for these

I test drove a proton coupe evolution when they first came out - produced to homologate a race series would you believe! Quite a decent steer from what I remember

There seems to be a lot of mods available, just deciding what to do with it whether keep it for a few months and track day it. I had a bit of lift off going round a slight corner, felt very old school.

I used to love these when they 1st came out. They still look great now, honestly can't see way so many people bought VTS's instead of these. Hmmmmm I think I want one again....

I've got a track prepped CA Colt GTi which is what these are pretty much based on.

Few small differences in the suspension setup and the air flow meter and exhaust manifold but other than that everything is the same.

The front end is all basically Evo 1/2/3 and therefore it's easy to swap parts over.

Turbo'ing them isn't as easy as just bolting a turbo on, easiest thing to do is an engine swap as all the mounts etc are the same.

The fully independant rear suspension really makes them handle well, much better than my Mk2 Golf.

Mine is fairly modded with coilovers, LSD, stripped, 4-1 manifold etc, goes round Combe pretty darn well.

Probably because of group 16 insurance - and Proton badge.

Not strictly true, it is an 1834cc lancer GSR engine without the turbo, and an increased compression ration to 10.5:1.

Bit geeky, I'm on no.2 though . . .
