Mk IV Golf is the dullest car in dullsville in terms of bland looks, is what I meant. Both my last cars have been based on the Mk IV platform, so I don't have much else to compare it to in terms of any dynamism it might have. It doesn't feel particularly connected to the road, but then, the only thing I've driven that does is a 100cc kawasaki-engined go-kart.

New tyres are ordered, I've become quite used to the small-ish wheels and the comfort they give.

I still prefer the looks of the Leon, but the A3 is growing on me...

So I've owned my A3 for a year. It is a nice car. It's quick enough to make overtaking handy, comfy enough to cruise across Ireland and England, and spacious enough to pack my entire life on and into to emigrate to Birmingham.

Yeah, after a year back home, I'm returning to the big bad UK for work. Lucky me...

The DVLA get a lot of stick, but I found dealing with them to be ridiculously easy. Within 2 weeks of being here, I had confirmation of import tax exemption from the tax office, an MOT, Car Tax for 6 months and a V5C. The girl I rang in Swansea at the DVLA for info told me exactly what to send, which was very little, and it all got done with zero hassle.

Car tax is also literally less than half the price in the UK than it is in Ireland, from E636 to £265.

Happy days.

So...what now?

I'm back to being within a cycling distance from work, which means I won't need a sensible-ish car really. However, I can afford insurance, so unlike when I lived in London, I am going to have a car for weekends. As you can see from the photos, I like the outdoors. I'd love to sell it and get a soft-top or fun coupe, but I want to be able to lug kayaks, bikes and climbing gear.

So I'm keeping it for the moment. But will be trawling pistonheads and autotrader for sub-£3k fun cars that are marginally practical, just in case!

It's very clean. I don't think any A3 is particularly inspiring though. smile

Like I said, it's a nice car but I'm under no illusions as to its amazingness!

The Audi is now hunting a new owner to love, cherish and keep it. I've moved on to something eminently less practical and more fun. A Mazda MX-5 of course!

Ive just bought one of these off ebay. 1 owner from new, 91k miles FSH only £1321 :-)
I dropped the sump and had the oil pick up pipe changed as it was blocking (common)
Quite a few air leaks were fixed changing a load of pipes for silicone.
An uprated DV valve, New N75 valve, service with 2 oil changes within 800 mile, boost gauge and remap to 210/ 220bhp then last of all changing the wheels for a set off a TT.
I went for the 180bhp Quattro version with the 6 speed box, which itself is rare, but I have to say I love driving this thing. Its a very usable hot hatch, quick and fitted with Bose, Xenons and half leather sports seats.
Total cost as is, just £2500. Not bad at all.
