The Cobra Adventure

Now I’ll be running remote master cylinder tanks I decided that they’d look good if they looked more original.
The original ones are made by Girling, used on things like Series 1 Landrover’s and are massive!
So my solution was, some Ali ones from eBay with some mini version of the correct Girling stickers made up for them.

That is bloody ridiculously loud, I’d definitely rather not have the power assisted steering than have one of those on my car…
You'd be surprised how audible it is as it's not a pitch that the engine drowns out, and if the vibration gets to the chassis it's then a proper hum
Not sure why the embedded video doesn't work, but here's how long it takes to reach operating pressure and an indication of the comedy noise

Ahh nice, yeah hopefully that does the trick You'd be surprised how audible it is as it's not a pitch that the engine drowns out, and if the vibration gets to the chassis it's then a proper hum

Cut a mile of s**t wiring out of it.
Can actually see where things go now.
Shouldn’t be as hard as I expected. As I can just fold the loom over to get some things over to the “new” drivers side.
In the quest for a more original dash I needed a few things.
Along with making a proper wiring diagram.
1, proper switches. Amazingly Lucas still make them! So ordered some new originals. Still waiting on two more to come.
2, I was also missing one gauge the originals would have, oil temp! I had pressure but no temp. So now I’ve got a new Cobra spec one from auto meter.
Auto meter is an off the wall choice, as the originals were all Smiths. Competition cars would end up with Auto Meter ones in, as they are all mechanical and far more robust than the “cheaper” smiths one.
It’s lovely though.

Given the space available, getting the engine back in seems like it'd be about as simple as your pictures make it look...
What fresh unexpected hell did you encounter?
I don't really have any space in my garage, so have to have the crane sideways in front of the car to hang the engine gearbox, then crank it up to the ceiling and swing it over, it's all a bit awkward, but actually getting it in place is relatively easy, although the Monaro engine bay is fairly empty now.
