Its certainly started to live up to the 80s reliability standard. Took it up and down the close tonight and the steering suddenly got very noisy, came back in to find he's dumped most of his Power Steering oil out rolleyes. Suspected high pressure hose but it was dark so I'll be having a good look over the system tomorrow after school to see what the problem is.

I went out again today and have found the source of the leak. It appears that the low pressure hose - CAC9992 - that goes past the air con compressor has been split by the belt chafing at it. It doesn't look right to me, seems too close to the belt.

PIctures of my new chain tensioner and the split hose and video below;

Hi Kamil, I've just spotted your thread and wanted to say it's a credit to you. My Dad had a Daimler Double Six V12 when I was your age, which sparked a life long enthusiasm for all things Jaguar. Keep up the good work, it will be a lot more comfortable than that Sinclair C5 of yours when you can finally use it! hehethumbup

My new hose arrived this morning so I moved some stuff around in the garage so I can get the front end of the car in as it was raining outside and I managed to get the new hose on in 30 mins. £40 well spent I think biggrin

Great thread and well done.

I had an almost identical car when I was 23. Was quite new then. Couldn't resist a deal at the time and made me feel a million dollars. I have had two XJRs since, and neither has been a real jaaaag in the sense that that one was. Enjoy!

Interesting thread. I'm more interested by the Sinclair C5 manual there! What's the story to that?

Have a look at this thread. The manual is there for the Christmas present indicators I'm fitting next week.

If you'd keep up with my Facebook updates you'd know wink

If all goes to plan and it's back on the road next year - hoping to get it in the paintshop by March - it will probably be going to some shows/meets round your way. smile

You're right it will have been about the quad, although I don't think it was the diff. I forgot to post the pictures on there. banghead

Went out and got a pair of new number plates as the rear one's reflective sheet had a light chip. Not the correct pre-2001 font but they were cheap, £12, instead of the quotes of £35+ I had for the number plates with the pre-2001 font.

It is nearing being back on the road now. I will spray paint the rust treated areas for now and have it done professionally at some point later this year. After the spray painting is done all it needs is a battery and then a trip on a flatbed to a mechanic friend who will get it road worthy.

I will obviously alsodo things like greasing the brake caliper guide pins before sending it off as it has been stood for over a year now and whilst it was still driven every 2-3 weeks it was only 100ft drives up and down the Close so things like the brakes are slightly 'sticky'.
