By all means put your own stamp on your car. But don't do it on a stbox corsa. I left my swift well alone apart from some different alloy wheels and fitted fog lights (not standard on the 1.3) and that suited me. It won't go anywhere near as fast as you are trying to make it look so don't bother.

Save the money, get a scooby and go nuts. Its the natural way.
Why do people keep panning this bloke's car?

It's not something I'd choose to buy, but evidently it's something he wanted, he works for, and he's proud of. Just because you'd rather save for a 'scooby' doesn't mean everything else is worthless.

By all means, criticise the changes he's made if you don't like them, but that doesn't make the car a **stbox**.

Don't be so pretentious for god's sake - you have a couple of uninspired choices and a share in your dad's Caterham, it's hardly Chris Evans' car collection that you're pootling round in either. Would you go round somebody's house and call it st? Would you turn up to a PH meet and actually tell him his car is a piece of st to his face?

If you would, you're socially inept, and I hope never to bump into you. And if not, which I hope is the case, why do you feel the need to type it? What value does it add?

'kin hell, it's like a classroom in here.

Cheaper than what? I recently had a conversation with a friend who was buying an almost new stbox. He said he's buying it to "save money" as it was cheaper tax, fuel and insure that his current car (that just happened to be a lot faster rolleyes) I asked him how much he is paying monthly for the car and what it will be worth in 3years when he comes to sell it. Then explained how depreciation works and that it will be alot more expensive.

His response was simply "I do not count depreciation" rofl yes, I'm sure the saving money calculation works if you discard some numbers.

OP, can we have some pics of the car on coilovers? I thought the wheels looked horrific but the look can be changed substantially through lowering the car. So you never know, it might look pretty good smile
hey man ive put the pictures up on the first page ill need to get better pics though cos they dont show them very well /

This thread has it all!
Im not saying dont modify your car, just do it properly, or save for a decent car, i had a mercedes e200 for my first car, then a rover 214si, now a mercedes s320cdi and a land rover freelander 1.8(thread in readers cars soon) im not bragging and im only 18.
Just watch your money! I worked hard to get my cars but they might soon be going to make way for a better car!

Probably should be grateful that there was no Internet or PH when I was a lad.

Mate of mine had a MK1 Ford Capri onto which he bolted a huge pai of Wolfrace alloy wheels to the rear of the car, two smaller wheels to the front, two very tall fibre-glass whip aerials on the rear bumper & to top it all off he added leaf springs to the rear suspension & jacked the back of the car up!

It looked frigging awful & had the reverse effect for him that he thought it would. None of the local slappers would go anywhere near him because he was 'the pillock with the stupid car!'

I didn't do anything to my Mini because of the rust..... & my best mate had the right idea.

He bought a Mini traveller, painted the rear windows black using matt black paint, took the rear seats out & installed a mattress...... @ fitted an 8 track stereo into it!

The car saw a lot of use over the years with a rota system being used on a Friday & Saturday night!

Modding cars wasn't really the done thing in my youthful days. We just wanted to get the girls into the back of my mates Minivan!!

I did however modify my Morris Marina 1.8TC one night.

I put the thing on its roof & lowered the height by nearly 6 inches! I think it was the first 'chopped' Morris Marina!

Only other thing i did was to fix a boot rack to my TR6. Couldn't be bothered to do anything else as didn't have the money!

Somebody wanting to change the wheels on his car is a sad indictment of modern society?

Please, get a life. Get out a little more. Don't get so riled by what the young people get up to. Life has evidently passed you by, but there's no need to take it out on other people.

Brakes? Suspension swaps? Engine rebuilds? It's a perfectly good car - why does it need any of that? As the OP has demonstrated, the suggested suspension change was considerably worse than OEM - so why bother?

Cars have come on a long way in the past 20 years. The start, run, and stop on a regular basis, if nothing else. They certainly didn't a lot of the time in the 80s.

I'm 24 FFS, not from the 80s.

re: "sad indictment" was reference to the finance culture, how just passed kids want the latest shopping trolley on tick, because that's what's seen as glamorous.

The lads Corsa isn't my cup of tea, but I drive a car most people think is for girls.

I'd get all ranty and critical but it would be hypocritical of me as a guy who bought Max Power and Fast Car often until I was in my early 20's. Back then people modified old and new cars and the internet didn't exist to hate those who do things that don't conform to some very narrow cultural norms. Give the kid advice on how to improve his car by all means, but do we need the personal finance lectures, name calling and general herd mentality muppetry from folk just repeating someone elses opinion?
