Trabant 601 - The Beast from the East (of Germany)
Discussion
Got the other rear corner and the handbrake mechanism fitted the other day. The handbrake is now also a rather fetching shade of orange.
After that we made a start of the front but unfortunately one of the front wishbones slipped and bent in the press whilst removing the old bearing so a new pair of wishbones are on order.
We made a start and got the front hubs built up though with the new brakes and bearings:

Front sub-frame built up today with the new wishbones. Looking much better
Jon has an update still to make about rebuilding the hubs with new bearings and bushes (which sounded a total pig) so hopefully he will update this week.
Once the engine bay is cleaned up a bit it can be bolted back in and it will be back on its wheels!

Big update today!
Gave the engine bay a quick tidy up with a lick of paint (yesterday)
Got the engine crane out and fitted the front subframe and fuel tank
Wheels on and she is back on the ground!
The suspension has already settled a little more since the pictures. Currently the front bumper has 4.5" ground clearance but there is still no engine or interior fitted

In preparation of Trabi's move to Jon's house I thought it best to get parts out of the garage and bedrom and back into the car.
I started by making the very fetching new carpets using the old ones as templates. Complementing Jons dog lipstick handbrake
With a matching boot carpet
And bolted the seats back in. Majestic I think you will agree
Unfortunately I don't know if the seat covers will stay as they are quite disgusting and itchy as hell. Now I just need to find places for all the things that I was storing in the Trabi as she is no longer a dumping ground.

Another big hurdle overcome yesterday and quite a busy day. I cleaned the engine with a mix of engine degreaser, gunk and liberal use of the jetwash. It came up quite well in the end. Whilst I was doing that Jon fitted the new brake master cylinder and piped up the copper lines for the front brakes.
And then it happened!
And then it happened!
Got the rear brake freed off today (new adjuster was no good and seized on) and fitted the right hand drive headlights. We also removed the seized steering arm lock nut, but we are still awaiting a delivery from Germany.
Took it for its first spin up and down the road though, it definitely smokes like a good'un and especially after the exhaust got hot

Anything like this:

The ones we used I ordered up for the Defender but I didn't need them in the end. Even the adjuster tabs all lined up, dead easy fit.

Lewis. Turbo'd TVR??? Where is the thread?
Here you go Scott. I thought retrorides would be more suitable as I feared a PH lynching after sticking the screamer pipe out of the bonnet http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/185126/tvr-...
