The £3900 Range Rover l322
Discussion
A Range Rover is all the car you ever need. Inverness to Altrincham to Dundee in 1 day and still wasn't sore/tired.
Drove from Inverness to Altrincham with a trailer and used 5/8 of a tank.
Return trip I did Altrincham to Dundee to Inverness and used just under a full tank (lights on) with a merc s430 on the back.
Not quite sure on the mpg but cost just shy of £160 I think. If anyones bored I believe the tank holds 100l and google maps will have the mileage between places to calculate the mpg.
On the return I had a 100l compressor, e38 rear door, e38 front bumper and 4 17" wheels + tyres with me too.
Pictures of said merc on trailer to come soon, car isn't mine so won't be a thread on it.

Interesting thread, thanks for keeping it updated, I look forward to the pictures!
Only have 2 pictures sadly, its a nice car though. Was for my mums boyfriends dad and it has too many gadgets for him! In his defence hes like 95 and had a ford granada cosworth untill 3 years ago when rust won the war.Did I mention I was towing through blizzards on the A9 also haha

Everything wedged in!
Trouble strikes just as its about to be sold haha.
Driving to work along a really tight single track lane with hairpin turns etc. Noticed everytime I slowed down there was a grumbling from the front. Disappeared whenever I accelerated though so in my mind the engine its self is fine.
Does it when in park/neutral/drive/reverse. Even when not moving so its not dif/gbox/tbox related.
Only thing that springs to mind would be either the water pump or alternater. If anyone has experiences this sympton help would be great

Both front tyres need replaced, ones flat and the other has cuts in the sidewall. Wheels are in good condition though, only the odd very small kerb marks.
Will probably just buy a tailgate instead of trying to fight the rust.
Not sure what I will do about these arches though.
Usual misted up rear light, fixed with a hole in the bottom I think.
Interior isnt in that bad condition for the mileage, better than the blue one atleast.
Seems to have hands free bluetooth, no idea if it works.

Update to this thread for people somewhat interested in running a early l322 td6.
Sold it to my mum sometime early this year as I had planned to use the silver one pictured. Ended up getting tracked down and some guy bought it off me for a grand more than I paid without me actually doing anything to it other than taking the gearbox out (wasnt broken, engine wouldnt turn over by hand so some sort of problem there with its "replacement" engine just before it broke).
Since then it has needed a brake caliper, a service and a battery drain which is yet to be figured out.
Currently sitting on something like 175-180k miles I believe.
Her boyfriend got interested by these after running disco 300 tdi's so he bought a early cheap £4k one too.
Other than a stuck caliper his has had no problems in over half a year too.
Tips If you want to buy one: dont worry about the appearance at this end of the scale or you wont get a car which has had the big things done, instead you have a polished turd as it will break.
Interior can have bits replaced easily - common fail is the drivers side window switches
Make sure it has history of the gearbox being refurbed recently (only for td6) if when you select drive it takes a second to go into gear thats the box starting to die - before mine went it would take 5 seconds to go into gear
Injectors refurbed/replaced - not just one but the full set or you know the others are on their way out soon too
Air suspension pump having been replaced/refurbed at some point idealy, the bags arent any more expensive than new springs/dampers anyway
Nothing larger than 19" wheels or they vibrate when you have your foot on the brake in stop start traffic (only for td6)
A low battery can cause all sorts of electrical problems even if the car starts ok

Thanks for the update, are you planning on buying another?
Yes, but not a td6 but a newer tdv8 to just have more power (same mpg) and the newer interior/dash for phone connectivity. When towing 3 ton around the highlands you feel the lack of power on the hills.Im only 22 but can say they are the best car I have ever driven for day to day duties. Yes its not a weekend sports car but they do everything else you need to do so well. I have owned a wide variety of cars and driven even more so not like im comparing it to some old fords and corsas.
The biggest problem with owning one personally was the negative comments to seeing a 20 year old driving one. Often got pulled by the police and car searched, got drug dealer comments constantly (even by a tyre fitter looking to buy drugs), mummy and daddys car etc. People just assume they are really high end and I couldnt of worked for it myself.
