leicestershire... its weird Its more expensive to insure things like civic type r's at my age than this. Its something to do with statistics I have been told. More 21 yr olds have crashed hot hatches than 911 turbos. Admiral will insure me on pretty much any supercar for this sort of price. Although I did a quote on my dream car a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale which came out over £2000. you need a parent and a girl around the same age as you as named drivers to get the best quotes. also park it on the street if you want to save a few hundred. weird I know but I save £300-400 a year by having it on the street rather than the garage. Do some admiral quotes yourself to see. People assume its cheaper to garage the car or park it on the driveway but with Admiral/elephant etc its the oppposite
nice car!

the reason why it's cheaper is people are having their houses broken into to steal the keys

obviously it's easier to work out which house the keys will be in if the car's parked on the property rather than on the street

Why thank you. Glad I moved you.

Fair play to you OP. You acknowledge it's on the limit. I suppose we all have different priorities. Income VS expenditure must mean you're spending a fair whack on your car but sometimes sacrifices are worth making.

I've had some wicked cars over the years and intend for my next car to be even better.

I do admire your passion and again, each to their own. It just irritates me a little seeing 18 year old yoofs, often scrotes with average jobs driving brand new sports cars and hot hatches while living rent free with their clapped-out Micra owning parents.

Sorry but in my eyes its a big step backward from the TVR, The 996 in my eyes is the ugliest and dullest looking of all the 911s.

Surely from a drivers car point of view the Porsche must feel bland when compared to the TVR?

I've driven a remapped 996 turbo along side with my Tuscan and give me the tiv anyday!

In my eyes the only way up is in the form of an Ultima. I loved your Tamora btw smile

In all honestness fair play to you doing that I work my arse of whilst at uni and am only just going to be able to afford a decent Clio 182 in Septemeber aged 19 1/2 911 turbo is a long long way away for me. I am aiming to own a decent boxter s for being 21 myself smile
Agree with admiral got quoted £1500 comp aged 19 with 3 points on a 182 which is very very good rivals were over twice the cost at least redface

Well done tranter. I like the black wheels aswell!

I aspire to a Maserati 3200/4200 before I'm 25 (or sooner if possible), and you have shown me it is possible to get a nice car in your 'youth'.

Who knows what life will throw at you next so if you can afford it (which by the looks of it you can) then why not buy it when you can.

I too hate people just assuming that you have rich parents just because you have a nice car.

Most teens/early 20's tie themselves up with monthly payments on an '11' plate Focus/Fiesta,Iphone's/Ipad's, partying each weekend and then moan about having no money!*

I hope your buisness takes off and you get that 360 Challenge Stradale.

You will have to get a daily the same colour as the 911 now, just like the Mondeo matched the TVR.

My rant over! Do I sound like an old man?

  • The above isn't bad to have. I for one would love an Iphone but it's the fact that they must have all the mod cons.

For the person that said its living outside of his means, here are a couple of others to consider.

Shmee - Age 23 - Aston V8 Vantage Roadster/ MINI Countryman.

He lives in London and has regular trips to Europe

dele - early 20's - 2009 BMW M3.

Had the same debate about age/insurance on his 'Carpool' segment that he ran for PH.

George H - Age 21 - 2009 Aston Martin DB9 - Got '61' plate VW Polo GTI on order

There are probably more around but can't think of many more. I didn't want to sound rude or anything, it just annoys me when people assume.

I can see what you are saying though as the majority are bought by daddy.

Firstly, I never mentioned rich parents (I wish mine were; they could buy me a car!)

My issue lies when the converse could be arguably true. "Children" living at home with their parents and blowing their pay packet on a car rather than moving out. Mum and Dad's Focus TDCi gets demoted to the front road so their PCP Focus RS can grace their driveway. True story.

Anyway, I'm not here to argue. Above all, the 996TT is a cracking car and the OP should/will be amazed and in love with it.

Bl00dy well done mate, ignore the nay sayers. Fantastic car and you've done well and worked hard to get it. Keep us updated on progress and look forward to hearing about the 360 CS this time next year!

I plan on doing this for a couple of years...
In 3 years when I finish university I would have done a gap year at circa 15k a year and then moved onto a graduate job at Sainsbury's at circa 25k a year aged 22/23ish and personally I plan on buying around a 25k car for cash as should have enough saved by mid way into my first year of the graduate job and staying at home for a couple more years before I move into rented accommodation. I don't see what is wrong with living at home until I am about 24/25 myself before leaving myself if I chuck them some rent money as means I can then save a lot of wage's up to help pay towards a deposit on a house and enjoy a nice car at a young age all paid for by myself. Well if it all goes to plan anyway smile

If you pay for something you like from your own hard earned, good for you. You want to post on here and show us, even better. Enjoy it now because if you get wife/kids/mortgage that particular avenue of pleasure may be closed off to you (to paraphrase a Mr B. Fawlty!)biggrin

Just to add - very nice car smile

Strange that, for me, some 911s fall into the "Meh" category and some into the "mmmmm" category. I'm guessing its all down to the Colour/Wheels/Bodykit combination,

21? You jammy git hehe

Thanks for all the comments smile Well what a long day started at 12:30pm and only just got in from spending the whole day cleaning the car ready for the Porsche show tomorrow.. Will hopefully get some good pictures tomorrow. The day has consisted of washing the car with the 2 bucket method, claying the car, re wash and dry, 3 coats of autoglym SRP, 2 coats of Collinite wax and all plastic trims dressed.

Also had a right result with the calipers that I thought I would need to repaint. I took the drivers side front wheel off and cleaned the caliper then spent a good 20 minutes with meguiars scratch X which has brought the caliper back to a shiny red. the pictures show the difference between the passenger side which I haven't touched and the drivers side with a coat of heat resistant wax to protect the finish

Passenger side (faded pink where lacquer has peeled):

Seriously though, while I admire and share your passion for cars, I just don't see where age is relevant to letting us see your car. While you must be proud, and rightly so, there's "showing" and then there's "showing off."

Maybe I am an old crank (is 28 old?) but there's a fine line between being a petrol-head and a young lad living beyond your means. Driving a supercar as a student?! Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm guessing you don't have a mortgage, kids and bills to pay, geezer!

I might go back living with my parents and buy a Rolls Royce!

By the way, nice car; I too drive a 911 Turbo!
I just dont understand why some have to piss on others Bonfires. It's his cash, let him do what he needs to do and dont tell him how to fking spend it.

Tranter5 - your a legend for getting that beast at any age! Hopefully I can graft hard enough to get one in the near future.

I am in no way showing off I work my arse off to pay for my cars its just to show that insurance is possible on cars like this at my age as alot of people think that it is not possible. It is also to show that with drive you can get things that you want if you work hard enough and I am not living beyond my means in the slightest... on the limit yes but pushing myself like this has got me where I am.

This is a thing that really bugs me as people instantly say things like "bet your parents bought it" I pay more board to my parents than some people I know pay rent. And I have freinds that didnt go university and are in quite well paid car sales jobs that don't pay a penny to live at home and still get there phone bills paid for them etc... Only reason I havent got a mortgage yet is because I am a student with no full time job so that will have to wait until next year when I will be buying a few properties to let from money made on cars I have owned. rant over...
I wouldn't normally comment on something like this but..............

You're paying a large monthly rental to live with your parents.......You're saving up and buying a 360CS in two years...... next year you're also buying a FEW properties, paying for uni throughout all of this and ALSO running a 996 turbo.............

This is being funded by selling second hand fishing tackle and making a grand or two on car sales once a year.

I love one sided stories.

Best of luck chap.

Well said.

Very nice car OP, and that's quite an achievement to own it at 21. I liked the TVR more, though. wink

Taking it the wrong way again... Its all about ambition. There is no way I can afford a Ferrari 360 CS currently and I am not saving up specifically I am hoping for a business to have taken off by then. Its just a target in life. I am hoping to do well in business life... I set the high targets to give me drive when I am up till the early hours packing orders I have sold. I graduate next year and thats when I can look to get a proper business started. I have a huge passion for business and just strive to do well. Maybe I just shouldn't have posted my age. It never caused a problem on the TVR thread... can we just stay on topic and keep opinions about my age out of my car journal...

Good luck to you son. But if you have no cash now and are relying on that 15k gap job then the first 6months of earning 25k pa to save £25,000, you might want to do your sums again. Saving every single penny would still leave you £3-4k short, and I highly doubt youll save every single Penny you earn (whilst partially at uni!).

It's a nice idea but it's not easy. I'm not some old Scrooge trying to piss on your fire either, I'm 23 and live for cars, did the same thing as you and well I'm just about to buy a £10k s2000, only complication is though that I decided to move out of home and buy a £200k house a year ago (with someone else however, not possible alone.)

Good luck to you.

Nice pork op, not my choice if I had that money, it's not a special car in my eyes. But nonetheless anything with ca 500bhp is going to be worth a look!

Not wanting to take this OT again, but I just don't understand you NOTB. Why is annoying that a young chap wants to live at home and spend his money on a nice car instead of moving out and living like a pauper?

Why would that be annoying to you? He is losing money on a depreciating asset, and losing more money on running it, fixing it, fueling it, rather than putting his money into a safer investment (house) or throwing it away renting and driving a st box around. Again, how is that annoying?

Is it annoying when you pull up next to a young kid in a car worth more than the average spotty teenager? Or newer than yours? Do you have to justify it to yourself that your costs of living are higher which is why they are seemingly doing better than the average on the roads? I can't see anything else that would wind you up about this, does everyone need to live a megre existance folling the trend like sheep to buy old crap cars and not want to stick their heads above the line? Ultimately, the only person that suffers from being foolish with money at a young age, is the person spending it. Why are you so bothered about their situation?

This chap above is managing his priorities, he's making some cash, he's studying, he's probably getting some help from his parents maybe in his business, maybe buying properties, what's wrong with that? Is it unfair that his folks worked hard and did well to provide for their son? So he can have more than the average 21 yr old? Should they have thrown him out at 16 and told him to get a job and live in a council flat? I don't get it? We're not all born equal, if you have a problem with that, take it up with your folks or your grandparents and ask them why they weren't as successful as you wanted them to be.

OP - great car, well done, I wish I was that entreprenuerial at your age to both study and make some cash on the side to enjoy fast cars. I studied and had a SWMBO, no time/energy for much else. Study hard, keep making cash, and by the end of your 20s you'll have enjoyed some more very tasty cars I'm sure! You'll find the TT very different to the RWD TVR, the TT will grip like nothing you've experienced before and will most likely be a bit more reliable. What I want to know is what do the ladies your age make of someone in a motor like that? Is it a turn on, or turn off - serious question, I'd imagine some will love it, and some will prob have a misconception about you just from taking a look at the car... how have you found it?
