Have owned two Mk2 MR2`s over the years, loved every min!
Recently bought a MK1 MX5 as a toy, its ok, but am starting to wish I had an MR2 again!
Think I may start having a little look in the classifieds!
MX5 anyone lol!

Found these two old photographs of my MR2. Dark nights, wet roads - what I remember most about owning it! hehe

I love the idea of these MR2s, a friend owned a fettled turbo and only had good things to say about it. They seem to be a bit of a bargain as well. Oh for a promotion that actually offered a real-life payrise!!

I would have another. They are a superb buy, very cheap, reasonable to insure.

On the downside, they are thirsty (my current 4.2 V8 steed is not much thirstier - if at all!), and they can rust quickly. When I got mine I hadn't spotted a tiny scrape on the bottom of the driver's door that had been painted over. That really rusted quickly in the winter. Across the space of about 3 months, it grew rapidly. I was planning on getting it sorted but sold the car before doing so.

Aside from that, there was so much to like about. I never did get the faded LED in the dash fixed. That meant it could be difficult to see an indicated 30mph at night when cars were coming towards you, but aside from that it was a quibble. I used to love watching the boost gauge too, particularly on full bore upshifts.

It wasn't the best car to commute in though. Very comfortable to sit in, but the clutch was heavy and sometimes when you finished work in the early hours of the morning, you just wanted to fly home to bed in comfort. The MR2 was always demanding if you were looking to make progress, and in some places, it just couldn't make progress as quickly as say, the TT, Impreza and A8 that have followed it. Great for a weekend car though.

This thread is a great read. Even though I have only had mine (rev3 NA) for a few days, I find myself agreeing with satisfaction,, with pretty much all of your evaluations.

Slightly off topic, as I know you didnt have a t-bar. but hopefully someone can help. I decided to drive wit hthe roof off today, and after putting it back on, im getting a slight flicking wind noise just behind my right ear. Tried readjusting it a few times but still there. Only happens at 40mph+. Am I just fitting the panels wrong? The noise was not there previously, so the previous owner had the panels fitted correctly for me, whereas I have failed.

Refreshing to see a near standard example that hasn't been messed with or got a awful body kit fitted to it! Looks really nice, well done.

I loved mine you'll get about 25mpg mixed but mine was close to 300bhp, they are a true bargain and I had nothing wrong with mine in 2 years apart from a reverse light switch.

Fantastic cars I will get another one day, maybe a rev 5.

There are some really good forums mr2oc.co.uk and imoc.co.uk.

Oh you don't want to buy a TRD oil filler cap and 1.3 bar radiator cap do you?

Not for me thanks, I sold this car earlier this year. But I still love finding pictures of it. It's been replaced by an Audi A8 4.2 Quattro which is much better for day to day use.
