French - I believe they did it to keep it in a certain Insurance bracket, that's my understanding anyway.

Defcon5 - the thermal gasket should stop most heat transfer from the engine block into the inlet which is the main issue at the moment. The standard inlet is plastic and so doesn't suffer from the same issue. Ok it won't stop the inlet soaking up engine bay heat but once the car is moving that's not an issue as much.

Ahh I see, I had assumed heat soak from the air in the engine bay was the issue.

Great read, getting a Supercharger seems a natural progression these days for people wanting more power from their ST. Only thing puts me off in the first place is how Ford only managed to extract 150hp from a 2.0 16v.
I thought it was a relatively old engine? and they were just lazy..

My 1998 2l french hatchback has more power standard than it tongue out

Quite possibly, its just frustrating because every credible review you read always mentions how the ST is gifted with a chassis that could handle alot more standard.

Yeah at first I thought that, I have known that the inlet gets very hot for a while but put it down to the car being stationary whenever I checked it. However when I fitted the Scanguage, it allowed me to keep an eye on temps and I noticed that even if I was doing motorway speeds the temp slowly increased into the 40+ temps every time. Stopping the car made things worse, it would shoot up to 50 degrees (this is in the winter) and then the temp wouldn't come down much even when moving.

They did. Hence the option of the Mountune upgrades.

Any tips on how to remove a bolt which has no head and appears to be stuck into the rear stub shaft?

The head of the bolt sheared off and so I'm left with just the thread stuck in the stub, fun times!

Fantastic build dude, you've done really well to balance tasteful mods with keeping it looking relatively OEM.

I always thought the Fiesta's were detuned so as not to steal buyers from the Focus.

I'm going to go the opposite way, and a agree with you that the prefacelift headlights look much, much, better.
Although i think that fog light surrounds definatly should of been kept black.
Are you going to spray the new intercooler black aswell?
Keep us updated on these engine mods! And congrats on a great project! thumbup

Thanks for the comments people smile

The head lights are certainly a Marmite thing and I'm pretty much the same, some days prefer pre-facelift and other days like the facelift! In the new year I'll look at tinting the headlights which I've been told makes them 100% better. If in the process I cock something up then it will give me an excuse to get facelift headlights back on hehe

At the same time I hope to get all the exterior plastics (fog light surrounds, front lower and upper grilles, rear valance and rear reflector surrounds) re-painted by a pro, probably in gloss black but I'm tempted to try something different.

Forgot to mention I also have a new rear valance on the way, which will be sent off to be painted gloss black similar to below

Although the fins have no real benefit from what i've been told it terms of down force, etc, it gives the rear of the car a more aggressive look imo.

As you say, will do F-all aerodynamically, but I think it'll suit the car nicely.

Whereabouts are you based? Happy to recommend a decent coachworks near Northampton.

I'm from Sutton Coldfield, just slightly north of Birmingham. I'll probably end up taking the plastics off and just posting them to someone to paint, the bodywork places around by me are awful.

Last Saturday's task was to fit the thermal inlet gasket, drain the coolant, remove the EGR valve and blank off the remaining holes, paint the inlet and re-fit everything..

Before I started

Inlet removed (what a pain that was)

EGR valve removed and blanking plate fitted

Two main Roose motorsport hoses fitted, second is on the left far down

Inlet back on all painted up along with thermal inlet gasket fitted smile

Thermal gasket seems to have done the trick, only managed a quick drive tonight but inlet temps ranged from 17-23 with the engine warmed up, which would normally be 20-50 degrees! Will keep an eye on things, it's still going to suffer from heat soak when the car isn't moving but there isn't much I can do about that. At least I believe I've found the main cause of high inlet temps.

Super car - love the quality and attention to detail. I'd be tempted to put in on steels with hubcaps, hide the FMIC somehow and go baiting for a laugh ;-)

Really interesting read, you certainly know how to spend some serious cash in a short amount of time - fair play. I think it would suit some compomotive TH wheels. As above the facelift lights were much nicer. Keep up the good work.

It's odd you should say that, my old Fiesta had comp TH's on it and I still kick myself for selling them with the car. I think they would of looked rather nice!

Even though they were only 16" they would of looked nice if the ST was lowered more on coilovers.

Final payment for the K-Sport brakes was taken yesterday so looks like they are getting close!

Totally agree, they just seem to suit the Fiestas for some reason, look rally inspired. My Ford could do with better brakes really.
