Isn't it nice to have a thread like this without any ignorant tts coming on and slagging them off.

Love to see it on the original wheels. Looks like its trying 'too hard' to be hip and cool on the modern wheels.

used to love these back in the day

Easily changed, but to be honest, I'd be bored with the originals after a week. After having these wheels on, the car looks very weedy with the originals. I suppose I went pretty extreme with the wheels as they are 18" with 215/35 tyres, but I still think they look awesome and suit the car. I've been into these cars since the early nineties and in about 95 I was running 17" on one of my other monty's. I was just doing to Monty's what others were doing to contemporary Sierra's and E30 Beemers. biggrin
See my other Monty below which was converted to turbo in 2000, but now sold. Wheels are 17". Click on the pic for another pic

Out of interest, how quick are the turbos?
As standard from the factory, the Montego Turbos had an official 0-60mph of 7.3secs and a top speed of 127mph. The Maestro Turbos were quicker with a 0-60 of 6.7secs due to being lighter, but due to the Maestros flatter nose, the top speed was only 1mph faster.
Anyhow, at it's launch the Montego Turbo was the fastest accelerating production saloon car and BMW had to release the M3 and Ford the Sierra Cosworth to have saloons that could beat the Monty a year later! The M3 was only 0.5 secs quicker to 60 too! but not quicker than the Maestro! biggrin

They feel far faster than the figures suggest and have amazing low down guts.
depends what you mean by saloon car...the Buick GNX was way quicker but not till '87

The GNX I think is a coupe? I'm talking medium to large four door family saloon car sector. Also the Montego was launched in April 1985 and at the time was quicker than some so called supercars of the time. There were loads of cars quicker than the Montego in 85, but not medium 4 door saloons. Mostly they were very expensive coupes and sports cars in a completely different category. (Or the larger and much more expensive M5, which even in decat European spec was only a second quicker!) Maybe there were some similar size American or other 4 door saloons quicker, but I suppose that any reference to the MG Montego figures would be based on availability within it's aimed market. I suppose even the later launched E30 M3 would not be included in the same class as it was a 2 door saloon.

I've always loved the MG Montgomery's! My dad had a Moonraker Blue B reg MG Monty (non turbine) with the talking dash! I was about 9 years old at the time and it like having K.I.T.T on the drive!

That's a lovely car, keep the pictures coming

Good try Pothole, but the Merc 500SEL was a monster sized saloon with a monster V8 engine to go with it. More in the same league as a Jag or 7 series Beemer than the Montego! I guess my post should have read ' at it's launch, the MG Montego Turbo was the fastest accelerating 4 door saloon in it's class'.
