I'm back on the road! Passed the MOT with no advisories, did most of the work myself (With help from a skilled lamp replacement midget and bloke next door), changed track rod ends and brake pads, swapped wheels over and paid beer tokens to get new tyres put on, a replacement wing mirror that broke during storage, somehow, and a few other bits and pieces.

The clutch is still stuffed, the bite point is about 3mm behind the carpet at the moment. That should hopefully be fixed this week! Although I get half an impression that my garage doesn't want to do it.....

Clutch is not that bad a job on these although i strongly recommend you change all the hydraulics at the same time (master & slave) as they are troublesome & do not enjoy being disturbed when the clutch is replaced worse case they can hold pressure on the new clutch wearing it out very quickly.

Remember that although a big engine its actually shorted than the 4 cylinder version & gives more room although from the top it doesnt look like it laugh

Clutch fixed! It's so nice being able to change gear again.....

De-cat fitted! I think the old one must have been blowing, sounds crisper rather than deeper now. If there is a performance gain, I think it's marginal...

My friend has a EP3. In a straight line, there is no difference up to the top of third gear. In pricing, you could have two 180's!

Update!!

The ZS has been to it's first Sunday Service for quite some time, Mercedes-Benz World. Much appreciated by all the hundreds of people who took photos of it.....

I've had a few people remark on how good it sounds, and if it's running a standard exhaust. Well, it is. But I've never heard it being used in anger properly. So, here's a video: https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1015030...
It's running a de-cat pipe, which made no difference to the sound. It has lost it's resonator box, which made a huge difference to sound!

Right, it was deduced that my clutch was knackered. So I'm £600 lighter this month (Including de-cat fitting). Running around Saturday, guess what happened? Yep, hard to change gear when hot....
Any online diagnosistisists? I'm thinking changing the gear linkage next, there is a poly set for a few pounds.

Sounds exactly the same as mine- standard(aside from a air filter) also.

It does outside, yes. Inside it's a booming, deep note. You still got the pipe in from the resonator box at the bottom of the air box?

Which filter are you using mate? It does sound good!

Sorry, should have said- it's a cold air induction kit(K&n). I agree 100% about the booming sound, from about 2.5k rpm onwards- my video doesn't capture it well. I'm glad someone else's sounds like that- thought something was wrong with mine!

Ah ok, I'm actually slightly worried about loosing some sound with an induction kit....
Keeping it under 2.5k rpm and you can pootle round town all day long, I love that when you plant your foot it explodes in sound.

Clutch cylinders go on these all the time, I had 3 go in under 2 years of owning mine. It would start intermittently so maybe its that.

I believe you can get an uprated kit for them now though

Same here. After two failures, there was only one option if I didn't want to be stranded again.

Was just a suggestion. I had a love hate relationship with mine, loved it when it was working. Hated it when it wasnt.

I had a lemon though, it was fking terrible. I think mine had been built by the work experience kids as it was a truly horrible car for reliability and bits falling off, including the engine! Literally the engine fell off its mounts (well the mounts snapped!)

It also ate the cambelt after 30k (about a month or two after MG went bust) and various other things went wrong.

The best was the heater, could fix it by kicking it, was very satisfying.

Loved the noise and the way it went round corners though.

Does sound like you had a bad one! Mine has the normal "Positions one and two don't work" on the fan control, can't be bothered with the soldering to fix it...

Not good that the engine and cambelt came off, lovely cars if you don't have a lemon!

After a lovely, 2nd-gear-only drive to the garage, I'm going to bed. ZS should be fixed tomorrow, I hope. For free, I hope.
