Rob I have series 3 lenses on mine. It will pass an MOT with red lenses anyway no need to change just use coloured bulbs. Mine will be LED bulbs.

Still undecided about going from 17inch wheels to 18s. My arches will take it but not sure about 50 profile rubber. I still want it to ride like a Jag.

I've never tried an orange bulb behind the red lense. Might give it a try smile. Regarding ride like a jag. They kind of cheated by using big 70 profile tyres way back when. What width wheel and what width tyre are you thinking of fitting?

Current wheeels are 235/55 17 all round. Don't like them, think they are too modern and the offset is wrong so they sit strange. I know what wheels I will be going for but not sure yet on 17s or up to 18s. If im going for 18s I would fit 235/50 18 I think. My rear arches are rolled up to the swage line to match the front.

What width wheel are you thinking of using as that makes a difference when mounting the tyre giving either a stretch or a bit of curb protection. 235 50 18 gives a rather high side wall and will make your speedo run slower than your actual speed?
Question for you. Petrol tank selector. If button is pressed in does that use the near side passenger side fuel tank?

As far as I know the wheels that are on it are 8 inch running the 235/55 17 tyres. Not sure of the impact on the speedo. The original 15 inch wheels are 205 70 15. When the car is back on the road the new speedo will be GPS so it will read accurate. At the moment is has series 3 instruments in it.

I am considering running slightly wider wheels on the back as opposed to the front. Wouldnt really want to drop the side wall below 50 though as i have large arches all round. Happy to hear advice on tyres. I just want it to grip as well as it can.

The petrol tanks are the same in all series Jags with the button in it draws from the left and with it out it draws from the right.

I was having a moment regarding the fuel tanks?!
I had work done on my coupe by Keith at xjrestorations. Paint wasn't that good and a seized engine on the way home due to no water in the rad after it was removed for front inner wheelarch repair. He was good with the metal repairs though. Was just having a back read.
235 45 18 is the spot on size to match the original wheel and tire combo. 8" wide is good for 245 width. 9" wide will only get 235 width and gives a 5mm inner wheel arch clearance with standard jag xk staggered offsets.
As you have massive wheel arch clearance why don't you lower the suspension to compensate rather than 50 series tires?

With my coupe, it's modified but I've tried to keep it all Jag in a subtle way, other than the wheels smile which I think suits the car loads even though they are modern

How have you modified it other than the wheels?

The 3 speed auto box has been replaced with a series 3 5 speed manual. The 5 gear has the same ratio as a period 4th with overdrive but has a much slicker gear change. I had to change my speedo to a series 3 as the new gearbox uses an electronic speed transducer. Then I changed the rev counter to match the numerals on the speedo, then changed the bezels to series 2 with the black paint removed which gives a satin silver finish.
A new restored walnut dash which I think really suits the interior. I fitted a good stereo system with door builds, rear shelf and boot mounted amps and subwoofer. All subtle in the cabin though. New 4.2 engine block, crank, rods, pistons, big valve head, injection cams, triple hd8's and a nice stainless exhaust manifold and pipes.
The headlights are plain type with no lense markings, the front indicators are series 1 e-type USA clear lenses and rear all red USA spec xj.
The front suspension has been lowered by the previous owner but I really need lowered springs for the rear as it doesn't handle well with all the weight on the nose

Where is the Sub? have you cut the rear bulkhead to get the bass into the car or is it just trapped in the boot?

Sub is mounted as the picture above. It has 400w rms so no need to cut holes into rear seat smile

I have a series 3 dash in mine so will be fitting a double din unit. I dont want that kind of power from the sub so will probably modify the rear seat and fit it where the armrest is.

I love original Cars but I still love Cars where the owner obviously cares a great deal about their vehicle that is stunning.

Seconded! That darker walnut dash really suits the interior, mine is quite pale and the lacquer is cracked slightly here and there. Rob - did you have any trouble removing / fitting the dash and head unit...?
