Just stumbled upon this as am researching before I start a build of my own. I had to sell my M3, although I only do sprints & trackdays, so could never afford or justify preparing a genuine M3. As a result I'm going to be building this to be as close to the real thing as I can, while I continue having fun in the 325.

Where could I get details on early works car cage design please?

Mine is behind the M3.

Any more progress on yours?

The car is coming together though and the project is approaching completion. We are test fitting these wheels now and I'm pretty happy with them so we'll get a couple of sets of those.

The car needs fluids/map/running in. Cameras/data-logging needs fitting. Then needs to return to the paint shop for touchup/livery and we're basically done.

Meanwhile the sister car is coming on and should only be a month or so behind this one.

Personally I can identify a few little items I want to change on the car but I'll wait until I next go up and see it in person before I pass judgement. Also we will encounter a few things in shakedown when we iron out any creases you inevitably get with a new build.

If my car turns out half as good as yours I'll be happy. Great work.

Are the wheels expensive? I'm getting an M3 in a couple of weeks and need something that fills the arches better than the OE basketweaves.

Got a couple of options... I'll let people know when we nail it down.

Saw the Fujifilm Supertouring race at Silverstone Classic, was amazing action and surprisingly the well-driven modern super tourers were not that much quicker than the RS500s, and the slightly slower cars were battling with the well-driven E30s. Superb race to watch and the sight/sound of these M3s being driven on the limit was absolutely awesome! Hope they start running it as a series next year.. Car looks superb aswell OP, those wheels... cloud9

E28 BBS wheels that you might sell? PM me if so!

Tom - what suspension are you running on the E30? Also, what's the plan for the second car - rental/sale/static display?

The second car is also being built to race in the same series - team cars if you like although with different liveries.

These aren't supplied by BBS - but they're very similar looking. These are magnesium centres though.

The E28 M5 alloys have a better offset compared to the OE basketweave so they do sit deeper into the arch.

I replied to your note mate.

Just to clarify,

BMW E28 16" basketweaves made by BBS for BMW,

BBS E28's AFAIK these have magnesium centres.

BBS E88's centre lock version of the E28's also with magnesium centres.

You can get these in Magnesium for sure & the E28 are lovely but not sure you can get them in a 17x9 which is the size I want. We might still put this car on centre locks, it's something I'm mulling over now. On the plus side it completes the look but on the downside they're a bit more hassle and offer no performance benefit in the format that I'll race in.

Can anyone help me telling me where you bought the roll bar in the photos?

Im having two cars built for the cscc future classics sports car series in the UK.... Don't have many pictures yet but I'll add them when I can, plus all being well some pics of the cars in action later this year.

This car here (first of two) started life as a road car and then was built into a race car by a well known UK BMW specialist before. I purchased the car in October-11 and contacted BMD Motorsport in the UK about building me a car that would be eligible for classic touring car racing in Europe.

One thing led to another and in order to produce an authentic looking works spec car the decision to remove the old cage and start a fresh was taken.

Old cage cut out, car dipped...

New cage in, early works car copy...

Car goes into paint now, more pictures soon... Hope she's ready in time for racing.
