Very nice.

In fairness to Volvo, I do think they made the V70 quite easy to work on from a maintenance point of view. Especially compared to something like a Passat (which I used to think was easy), where you have to do stupid things like remove the wipers to get the battery out.

I replaced the rear dampers on mine a couple of weeks ago. Nice and simple, two bolts and they just drop out. I've had the front bumper off, changed the intercooler, even the fuel filter is nice and easy to get at just under the rear passenger door (try doing it on a B4 Audi A4, where you have to unbolt things in the engine bay)

It is - its gone floppy. Very common with Ovlov keys, but its a surprisingly difficult and expensive fix to sort. So for now im living with it.
Ahhh is it none of those flippy affairs?

Thats true - a fuel filter change and an EGR clean are on the list of things to do when I get back from the UK.

I guess I was just a bit annoyed at having to remove a lot of engine bay gubbins the other week to get a bulb - the drivers side looks significantly more difficult should I ever need to get in there!
Volvo fuel filters are nearly 3 times the price of a GSF one. Don't know if there's any difference. I've not tried a bulb change, but I thought I had the headlamps out when I did the intercooler change. Might have been the Passat though when I did the cambelt on it.

We covered just a smidge under 1500 miles and managed it on 2 tanks of diesel. The way back was the journey from Hell; stuck on the M6 and M25 for nearly 4hrs in traffic yesterday and I missed my chunnel booking by a good 3hrs. We made it home in the end though.
Ah, I'm guessing you were stuck in the unholy mess that was the Dartford Crossing about 6pm last night?

We came back from France last night and expected the Dartford crossing to be a nightmare, turned out to be almost empty going north, coming south however...

Wow thats a leap of faith and an absolute bargain for the amount of car you've got.

Can i ask will you be restoring the leather and steaming the carpets? should bring a very tatty looking car (when purchased) into a well loved runner.

I'm developing a soft spot to.....

1 owner, recent Cam belt, long mot, new tyres, Well spec'd, full md history with bils and it's not gold. (as is normally the case for such proper examples!) whats not to like?

Half tempted by this, if I didn't have BMW connections and a very well sorted E39 think I'd be viewing!

I got stuck in and cleaned the EGR this morning. Dead easy, but very dirty!

Removal is straight-forward, I gave the mixer a good scrub in petrol and also cleaned out the ports on the valve itself.

I dont *think* this is a 155k mile EGR mixer, therefore at some point in the cars history id say its been done before.

The thick mixer pipes were about 20% blocked, although the opening to the EGR valve itself was about 40% clogged.

After a quick test drive I can safely say theres already a huge difference in smoothness and willingness to rev - time will tell if it will yield any economy boost (I am quietly confident it will)!

That's interesting. I gave mine a clean at about 160k, it was nowhere near that bad, although I suspect extensive motorway work helps keep it clear. Otherwise, like you suspect, someone's been in there before.

There will be a very cheap X plate Petrol one coming up at work very soon, I just might have to have a go for a couple of hundred quid!

We have had a couple of daft bills recently on our XC90 but the V70's seem to offer far better VFM

Taking the car to Tuscany tomorrow.

We're going via Switzerland, will probably take the Gotthard pass on the way there, and the tunnel on the way back. The forecast is for bright sun and 37c the whole time bandit

I guess we will cover 3k miles over the 10 days - can we all pray to the Bork gods for an easy ride hehe
It ll be just like the last trip and the Volvo will take it all in its stride.

Have you done anymore to it?

Hi guys! Have been following this thread with great interest as I'm looking to buy a V70 D5 myself.

Sorry to hi-jack but could I point a couple of you Volvo experts in the direction of this thread to see what you think?

Thanks and hope I'm not being too cheeky!

What a fantastic trip! I would love to do something like that. Glad the car did well smile

I was in an S80 a few days ago, genuinely couldn't believe how good the seats were. I assume it is the same story in your one? I am currently looking for an excuse to buy one... hehe

Alex, may I ask how you pay insurance and road tax? Is it still registered in the UK?
