Is the windscreen viable as it is? It looks vulnerable to the kind of forces that that kind of car should generate (At least in it's trackday format)

That's bloody brilliant! I hope to do a project like that when I'm a little older.

It's even prettier with the lights - why can't real car designers make something look that good?

Good luck with the rest of it and keep up updated (pics and videos wink ).

The wind srceen is 9mm thick laminated glass- chances are I will have to put some sort of frame around it, for the road and track but as a concept vehicle i dont have rules to run by.

I dont know how old you need to be for this type of project as im 32, is this old enough? definately feel older after a 14hr day at work to come home and work in the shed.... Will have some pics of the gearbox being machined soon..

A few more pics of how progress is happening, the car has been stripped back to the chassis for a few revisions.
I also have the exhaust to finalise and the hand brake to complete the last of the major fabrication effort.
The engine is halfway through the build and the gearbox is almost ready for machining.
Heres a few pics

A car is only as good as its many parts.

Front end preassembly

A lower rear wishbone on the fixture in Cnc machine

The Synergy engine- 390hp 95kgs- FUN!!!

Christmas holidays are almost here, so Im setting up to be flatout getting the car ready for the new engine and gearbox delivery early next year.

I will have dyno video up on our site as soon as it comes to hand.

Let me know what you think.

Neil

Forgive me if I'm asking a silly question here!

Looking at the end of the cylinder heads they are different and I am assuming this is because one 'faces' one way and the other is the opposite way round...with them both on the same way round you would end up with the exhaust side of one head in the middle of the V right? I'm right in understanding you are using the bike engine cylinder heads?

Ok so next question...how do you drive the cams with the cam gears at opposite ends of the engnine?

Or am I being incredibly dense and missing something tongue out

You pretty much answered your own question. There are cam drives at each end of the crank.
Yes those are zx12r cylinders and heads, one 'bank' runs opposite the other.
A friend of mine Simon Longdill designed and built the complete engine, I machined all the custom components needed to produce it.

The first engine was a twin crank engine, then he designed and I made the crankshaft for the next version. Thats the Synergy 2400.

I'll hunt down some pictures of the twin crank...

I am researching LSDs at the moment, has anyone had any experience withe the following brands;

Tomei-torsen type
Quaife-torsen type
Kaaz
OS Giken
Cusco
Nismo

I am using a Nissan R33 diff housing, known to be a strong unit and of abundance in our part of the world.
Any feed back is greatly appreciated.

From an ex F1 design engineer.......BIG respect, you have the courage & time to do something I also hope to be fortunate enough to do one day.

That's a cracking job, even more so for a home brew.

Thank you for the fine words on my project gentleman. The completion is now in sight, vaguely. Its the little things that seem to wittle away the time. Little steps every day and the vision becomes clearer with every step.
The engine was designed and built by friend Simon Longdill,I machined all the unique parts for the project. He calls the engine a Synergy 2400.
Drop him a line at Simon.Longdill@buckleysystems.com
It is a fantastic little unit that we are very proud to be a part of. Simon will be only too happy to tailor the engine to your needs.

I had a Kaaz LSD in a supercharged MK1 MR2 I used to have. the car was quite heavily modifed with around 200bhp to put down. The diff was a clutch pack type.

I found the diff to be very aggressive and not that well suited to road use.

Low speed handling was not so good...off the power it would understeer and at really low speeds (car parks and around intersections) it would grumble and chunter and the inside wheel on the turn would skip and screech across the road. As soon as you could use some throttle and get some speed up it would stop.

When I was 'making progress' it was brilliant...instant lock up every single time and it felt like you could just keep pouring the power on in the corner. Like I say, very very aggressive!
Under a hard start traction was startling.

The downside to the Kaaz clutch pack diff was that it took an hour of driving figure of 8's to run in (try doing it without the police rocking up!!) and it has a 5000KM service schedule.

Thanks for the heads up on the Kaaz unit.
I had read that elsewhere also. I think I will try the stand viscous style first, then delve into the depths of an 'atb' or 'torsen' style. I think with my light car a clutch style maybe to aggressive.
I let you know how I get on..

It actually felt like a locked diff. There was no slack in it at all.

That was actualy my 2nd MR2. My first one had a standard open diff and I think I much preferred the more progressive feel that gave. On the limit driving was much easier...though less exciting as there was far more warning of impending doom.

Maybe you dont need an LSD to get the handling you want?
