Thanks for the link, that is brilliant. I am actually fairly lucky as my car came with all the original books, folders and a massive stack of history including an original brochure with hand written notes in it by the original owner who was pricing up what he wanted!http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200904111499?ssPageName=...

Cheers rowey, I appreciate the heads up. I'm keeping my eye out for loads of 309 parts at the moment and it is great when I get links like that. I should get some more pictures next week so I'll be able to update on the progress.rossub said:

I'm having all the plastic bits painted black as they look crap and even after cleaning up will just go fifty shades of grey again (ooo err) once left outside.
The paint being used acts like an etch primer that eats slightly into the plastic so it shouldn't suffer from the usual lifting, cracking and peeling that you find with many painted plastic parts.
The mirrors have been completed, the bumpers and other trim parts have been primered.
I've also found a brand new bonnet which is being delivered at the weekend. A new early type interior has been found but it's in London, which is a good 600 miles from me!

I would love to have a look at your's in the flesh when it's finished, might make me want to get another though.

Thanks van cleef. As soon as the car is finished I'll get some nice pictures taken and get out and about in it. I'll be happy to let you take a poke around it. It really is a fantastic looking car, if I can get mine looking half as good as that I will be very happy.
I like your Miami blue car too, I always liked that colour.

Ahh, takes me back to.....er.....about 12 years ago! I set my heart on a black 309 GTI at the time all i can say, is been there, done that.

. Loved it to bits, but it destroyed me financially as I was at uni at the time. Head gasket failure and the need for a replacement rear axle to name a couple of issues. Such a rewarding drive when running right....I seem to remember the throttle response was awesome!

i did yes. it now resides in essex, and has not long been on a stand at classic car show in the NEC.It really is a fantastic looking car, if I can get mine looking half as good as that I will be very happy.

miami has long gone also. that lives in scotland.
all i do now is rebuilt axles for 205,309, 306s

I did a similar thing in 2000 when I was at uni. Though my money pit was a bright red Rover 220 Coupe which cost me an absolute fortune in broken bits. My mates called it 'The Big Red Money Eating Machine'! I loved that car.. Loved it to bits, but it destroyed me financially as I was at uni at the time.
