Will the turbo be an easy add-on?

Not too difficult allbeit I'm getting my friendly local garage to do it smile . I think the hardest part is modifying the sump for an oil feed. The carbs also need to be modified, but I have an original set from an Avon Turbo, so hopefully they'll be okay. The turbo itself may need a re-build. It should be relatively straight forward I hope, assuming I do actually have all the parts we need.

Those alloys look very similar to the MG Metro OEMs....

Believe it or not Avons were about the cheapest new tyres I could find anyway smile

OP: "I'd like to order some Avon tyres, please."
Tyre guy: "But sir, we can do you far superior tyres, and often at a lower cost."
OP: "All the same, I'd like some Avon tyres, please."
Tyre guy: "The other problem is that I can't get them for about three weeks. I could have you some Toyos today."
OP: "You don't understand. See, I NEED Avon tyres."
Tyre guy: "Why?"
OP: "My car is not a Triumph Acclaim Toyo Turbo. It is an 'Avon Turbo."
Tyre: "Pardon?"
OP: "My car is called a Triumph Acclaim Avon Turbo. That's the name."
Tyre: "What's a Triumph Acclaim?!"
OP: "A car that I own. Kinda like a Honda, but not. Very few left."
Tyre guy: "Is it any good?"
OP: "Not especially, but it's very rare. And I love it. So, could I have some Avon tyres?"
Tyre guy: "Even though they're worse, more expensive, and take longer to source than this list of tyres I have on my computer screen?"
OP: "Yes. I'm not passing up on this opportunity."
Tyre guy: "You must love that old banger!"
OP: "Shut up, you drive a 118i with sick rimz an stretch tirez fam. I've seen your Insta...#th0m4s"
Tyre: "Fight you."
OP: "After you've ordered my tyres. Avons, remember."

This may, or may not have taken place. Wheels look good though! biggrin

Here's a photo of the car I took when it was still owned by the last owner - racing in the wet at the Alford Ring, Aberdeenshire

Was this the 'How Many Left?' event a couple of years ago? I may have pictures of the very same car lurking about on my laptop! I do remember an Acclaim being thrashed about on the 'Head to Head' challenge!

Anyway, cracking car OP! Really looking forward to seeing how it comes along. If things get more sensible next year will you be taking it to any shows?

Any updates on this? I assume you have the carb, turbo pipe work and distributor from the turbo car?
Oil feed would be a T piece from the oil pressure switch, you can get a local hydrolic pipe company to sort that for you. For the oil return you need to get a spare sump and have a tab welded on at the top and again use local pipe company to rig it up for you.

Should be a simple affair, your half way there already. Would suggest taking it to a old school car tuner when it's done for some fine tuning.

Bloody brilliant. Now listen carefully - look into the eyes not around the eyes... you’re under.

You will walk into the garage and remove the interior from the Acclaim. You will install race seats and harnesses and much of the exhaust. You will purchase a gratuitously expensive set of coil overs and lower the car onto the track, and then repaint in suitable racing colours. Then you will take a lot of photographs of the car on two wheels at Brands Hatch and post them on PistonHeads....

....aaaaaaand you’re back in the room.

Yeah not bad that car. Thanks

Excellent.

My grandad had an Acclaim. They were owned exclusively by grandads when new. His had a cushion on the rear shelf.

My grandad reckoned he could get 120mph out of it. My Dad didn't believe him, but it did shift quite well for a 1.3 at the time.
The Speedo only went to 100mph 🤣

Wow, that's some thread resurrection!

Still I'm glad because I never knew these existed. I wonder what has happened to it?

I’m a teensy weensy bit sad it’s not in BL racing colours.

But the browness is SO right.
