I want a moonraker Vitesse like my dad had but it'll cause a divorce - apparently 7 cars is enough (she doesn't know about 2)

Buy it and restore it while getting your Dad to insure it just incase anything happens to it. (Fire, Theft etc....)

Obviously you can't drive it until insurance is visable, but at least you'll know the car is there anyway.

Ironically I was looking at this very car yesterday.... another thread on here got me thinking about 309s and I always fancied a Goodwood.

I actually dismissed it as I wasn't certain it was a genuine one, the lack of wood inside and the front fog/ drive light issues made me wonder if it was a mock Goodwood, though I can't remember if that colour was offered on other 309 models.

Anyway OP, if it means that much to the family, get it bought, SORNed and kept offroad, plenty of time to insure it and use it when you're older

I'd say that if you like it that much - don't hesitate any more, get it bought and SORN it.

I know that if one of my dad's old chariots came up for sale I'd be doing everything that I could to get it back in my possession !

Your right about classic insurance though. Generally speaking, one would have to be over 25 and have another car as their primary vehicle and the `classic` would have to be garaged. (Well that's how it works in my case anyway)

The OP's age would be a limiting factor I believe.

I have no desire for any of my dad's old car's that I remember, Peugeot 505 2.0 petrol auto's, renault Savanah 2.0 petrol auto and a Vauxhall Belmont 1.6 auto. Maybe he had some good cars before I was born but I doubt it very much.

To be honest I don't think I'd particularly want those either!
I ended up letting it go to someone else, I sat down on the day of the auction and worked out all the costs and decided that unless the car sold for a particularly low amount, it just wasn't worth my while. I have however emailed the seller and asked if he could pass my details onto the buyer, so perhaps one day I'll end up buying it back after all.
