Hi all, been a bit of a lurker in these parts for a while before I decided to sign up to the forum, and it's been the best forum I've joined to date. So please be nice, it's only a boring Golf, but it's my boring Golf and I'm very proud of her wink

VW Golf MkVI 1.4 TSI 122PS
Silver Leaf (undoubtedly one of the worst colours in VW's selection, I think shiny pale beige describes it better)
39,000 on the clock.

Really chuffed with it so far, surprisingly quick but then again I only have my first car (1990 Rover Mini 998cc) to compare it too, but looking to make some modifications in the near future hopefully.

Anyway, some pics:

Somehow managed to squeeze 60mpg out of it on a motorway run the other day:
(a steady 65mph behind a lorry for three hours)

Thats about it for now! smile

Pretty soonish I'd like to get it off the steel wheels and damn Ecovision tyres hurl
A new sound system is hopefully on the cards as the S Spec VW one doesn't quite do the job!
And hopefully a Remap as well, although I'm thinking about chickening out on a full one and picking up a Superchip Bluefin jobby.

So if anyone could recommend some nice OEM wheels to put on it that would be great, and anywhere that offers sound system upgrades too. smile

Thanks for reading.

Ollie

Looks like a nice car, you say its only your second car so assume you are quite young. Personally I wouldn't mod. Accept it for what it is, a nice car for a young lad to have and enjoy it, but its a stop gap, look after it service it properly, get the no claims and climb the vehicle ladder.

If you do choose to mod, keep the steels as you could prob return to OEM to sell it and then sell the Alloys seperatley. Don't remap its never going to set the world alight, save your pennies

Oh and welcome to the forum

I think the old RS6 alloys would suit it perfectly, 17's.

There is something about new cars that I really like!

Hi yeah I kinda went through the modding stage with my poor little Mini but I think I'm a little more grown up now (21) so yeah, there won't be any halfords spoilers adorning it. Just fancy something a little sharper than these, but will definitely keep these and maybe even use them as winter wheels.

Sound system is really bugging me though, I think it took a hammering throughout the previous owners 40,000 odd miles....

Found some RS4 wheels on eBay but I don't think they were genuine, you got any links to yours?

Cheers
Ollie

Surprisingly good engine the little 1.4; drinks like its allergic to fuel stations and moves along well enough to boot.

Should remap pretty nicely to make it fairly brisk so I think it would definately be worth doing.
Wheel wise i'd just get some Golf GTD or higher spec golf OEM wheels, RS4 or RS6's just make it look tacky IMHO. + the Golf GTD's I think look gorgeous (these style: http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.t...

Personally I wouldn't mod it, its a small engine, the rest of the car is not at all set up for performance, so I'd avoid putting money into it in that sense. I'd use the money you aren't spending on petrol at the moment to save for a better car further down the line.

Impressive fuel economy on that, can I ask what sort of fuel economy you usually average when not stuck behing a lorry at 65mph?

I like the idea of a petrol company car rather than the standard diesel offerings.

Talladegas are a great shout! problem is they will more than likely be reps unless you're guna spend silly money on them? Whereas used genuine GTD's will be had off ebay for a reasonable outlay, but those talladegas do look the nuts!

Agreed, wheels and some sport springs would be ok, but draw the line there.. also, please don't buy cheap copy wheels, go OEM

Looks like a cool car though, I think the colour is ok smile
