The car is going in for its first coat of primer today. I've got a new bonnet on it's way and almost a full set of red bumper and side panel trims coming. I'm on the hunt for the red trim for the rear bumper if anybody knows of a source?

Cheers Olly, I really can't wait to see it painted. How much longer have you go to wait until yours is painted?

Mine is being painted today, checked in on it this morning and it was about to go into the booth.

Great news! I'm looking forward to seeing it painted!

Red trim - Peugeot still do it for the 205, so maybe for the 309 as well? It's expensive though...
It seems they've stopped doing it for the 309 now. However, I have found some in France on Ebay, new old stock still in it's original Peugeot Talbot packaging! It's been ordered and is now on it's way to the garage.

It's really coming along now. The car has been painted in primer and the top coat is going on.

I can't wait to see it in the flesh!

Just waiting for the new bonnet and an interior to turn up! Jobs to do next are an full service, rebuild the rear beam, overhaul of the front suspension and find some seats.

Outstanding!

I'm going to be consumed by jealously when this is finished. I had a red E plate GTi back in 1998/99 and loved it. First 'proper' car I ever owned - the car is long long gone but the little Vangaurd model sits on my desk as a constant reminder of the good old days.

Hats off sir, epic thread!
Thanks Davie. I love those Vanguards models, I have a couple sat on my desk too!

looking good !

I think time has been kind to the 309, I actually think it looks better now than new, if that is possible.
Thanks for the kind words Ollie.

I always liked the look of the 309, though I suppose from some angles it can look a little ungainly! I agree that it has aged fairly well. The exterior anyway! The interior is very '80's'!

Sorry for the delay in updating this thread, I've been abroad fro the last few months with work.

Anyway, I finally collected the car from the bodyshop. It looks awesome, they have done a brilliant job. I had the wheels re-furbed too and they have come up a treat.

Next to do is clean up the engine bay and get the interior re-trimmed as it looks abysmal.

I've taken these pictures on my phone but I will upload some nicer ones when I get them taken!

We also had the old girl on the dyno, she produced 127 bhp which isn't bad for a 27 year car with 110,000 miles on the clock. It appears most cars actually only produced between 120 and 122 bhp, only the very early cars had a little bit more oomph. I am really pleased.

The worst thing was having to drive it more than 100 miles home in the rain!

Looks fantastic, looking forward to seeing her finished.

Crazy to think that it only has 127 bhp when my Ignis sport is a much smaller car and only around 15 ponies down.
Cheers 4star.

You'd be surprised but it probably isn't that much bigger than an Ignis in reality! Being an 80's Pug it only weighs about 975 kilos all up too. It's great fun to drive though I've found there are a lot of weirdos around who seem to want to 'race' me. I wasn't expecting it to be honest.

My paint work is too dear to me so I just let the morons get on with it!

bob - do you have the original supplying dealer details amongst the paperwork? The number plate looks very familiar (as do the air horns) - it would have been supplied by Taylors Peugeot if it's my dad's old car.

Cracking car, and lovely resto. Enjoy.
I shall check through the docs this evening, I have the original invoice and even the trade in docs for the owners previous car (Astra SRi I think).

I'll let you know!

Take a look at Baker Bushes & Mountings website for some 309 parts. They do lots of little bits that make a massive difference to the car. Stuff like replacement gear linkages and bushes etc, makes the gear change a lot more precise. Plus engine hoses etc
I'll definitely take a look at their stuff. nect job is to get the engine bay sorted out so I'll be needing new hoses and under bonnet parts to make it look nice.

I had to join up just to say "that is fantastic". May I be one of those weirdo people who letch after your car?

Great handling (better than 205) and looks cool, 130 hp per tonne. Good effort
Cheers Jamesy! Welcome to PH by the way! Thanks for the kind words, I still have a long way to go to get the old girl finished but I suppose that is all the fun of the project!

Looks brilliant after the re spray.

I had a Graphite Grey one for a few years ( post halfway down http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... )

Great handling car
Cheers s m. I always liked the graphite grey cars. I haven't seen one for sale in that colour for a long time now, would be nice to get hold of one though. Yours looked lovely.
