I believe the talking one with the digital dash was a 1.6 on carbs used to sound lovely, my mate had one I was so jealous.

MG 1600's and early EFis had the digital dash with voice synthesiser, dropped around 85'.
Afaik it was optional on MG EFis (including Montego).

It became an option, the firs EFi's from August 1984 had them as standard (we have one) after 85 it became an option and people didnt tick the box so they dropped it.

If by "first EFis" you mean Montego Efi (apr 84) -then yes you are right there and my mistake. However, it was never standard on Maestro EFi

Love these, I would put original wheels back on it though - the current wheels look nice but when it looks standard it looks right.

There's something about the body kits of 80s and early-90s performance models that make them look tough, yet subtle at the same time. Unlike modern equivalents with massive vents and glitzy details - thinking of the current VXRs and Fast Fords - you get a couple of small intakes and maybe some fog lights. Trim strips in red are a particular favourite of mine from that era.

Your MG looks great.

Loving it , used to gorp at one in the car park at work back in 1990. a BRG one . The bloke who had it had no idea at all what he was driving. a bit of bonkers slipped through the Rover net.
Actually if you go to the "Pride of Longbridge" show its a bit like an episode of Wacky Races. Everything from huge 4 l Van Den Plas bolides down to a City Rover. English eccentricity in metal.
The MG Maestro turbo was a great car but I havent seen one for a while. This may be the last of the mohicans.
Will be able to go to pride of Longbridge in my very own eccentric 'Longbridge Metal' next year ...lol a winter hack that I'm loving old Rover Streetwise.....what a daft motor

'Cor this brings back some memories... some are even pleasant.

I had 2 Monty Turbos back in the 90s and an EFi Maestro that I dropped a turbo lump into from a crashed Montego. That was a laugh on the road, on the EFI ratios, boost up around 20psi, so much torque steer that it was 50/50 whether you overtook someone or ploughed into them wink

I had an early MG1600 too, one of my 1st cars, talking dash, the lot. Surprisingly quick.

Hats off to the OP; that's a nice looking car.

My parents had a 1.3 smile with rusty arches my Dad repaired.

I was ready to post "get it back on the original wheels" but they suit it completely. A great PH thread - your enthusiasm for the car comes through in the OP.
