I'll ask on the Escort Cosworth forum if people grease their UJs.

These old performance cars make less than no financial sense hehe
You may say that but there are members on the escort cos forum rubbing their hands together watching the values of their hardly used minters shoot up.

As I said yesterday,I put 25K on mine in the short periods of use it got.

I've put nearly 30K on the Barchetta in less than 3 years.

Regarding the UJ failure - did you keep the UJs greased? I can't see much grease in the pic. There is a little aperture in the UJ in you pic to attach a grease gun.
Well slotted that man.

I asked on the forum and yes some remove the blank, fit a nipple to enable greasing.

The front prop is very close to the exhaust so it's no surprise the grease disappeared.

I only know about greasing nipples cuz of having a UJ fail on my Defender. I believe that the grease is 'meant' to disappear, the centrifugal force squeezes it out past the bits it lubricates. That's why the grease needs to be replaced every so often. . My LR dealer obviously forgot to do it on my car..

I once almost had an Escort RS Cosworth as a company car, it was on the list of available cars, but my boss got the hump and wouldn't let me....

Ran one as a daily from 1997-2002, Imperial Blue & Rondells + 350bhp, was good fun but not that reliable but nowhere near as bad as yours!

I used mine daily from purchase in May 07 to March 08 when it first went wrong.

I then bought the Fiesta, pictured earlier, brand new as a reliable daily.

Hi. Hope I’ve tagged into the right person. I’ve owned the rs1600i for about 6 years and would love to get it back on the original plate if you ever consider selling it.
Gkm 3y Many thanks Dan

Thanks to all above for the kind words and sympathy.

I'll go over the last 5 years with this again which will hopefully

provide all the answers and try not to end up with a TLDR.

2010 Christmas day,transmission breaks,spectacularly,takes 9 months to

repair.

Then have a starting problem which cures itself,or does it ?

July 2012 breaks down in Dover on the way to Europe.

Fix it,in fact make it worse.Send it for MOT anyway....Fails !

Drive it home,I suspected, correctly for the last time, giving it a

final blast,40 mph limit locally was (cough) ignored.

October 2012 car is parked up for 3 years till yesterday when it sold.

I'm just glad I got to go to the ring in it also to Italy and Sweden

both in 2010.
I don't regret owning it,the awesome acceleration was eye

opening even with less than 300 bhp.

I now have my little convertible to enjoy now ,a complete polar opposite to a Cosworth.

This is the last pic I took before it left my garden for the last time.

Oppliger long box closes the ratios and brings the engine to life as the Cossie was over geared, it can take 700bhp and can be used as a daily gearbox. I will be running 630bhp and over 500 torque on my one.

I have no idea how the internet brought you here from a few mentions of the reg plate that was on this car for just a few months.

I still have the reg plate on the Fiesta pictured earlier.

Current issues means it has not been MOTed for 3 years ,if you are really keen to have the reg back ,you might need to buy the whole car,

fix it up to transfer it back to the RS1600i.

You never know.

I am very late to this discussion. I was the second owner of RS1600i GIM3Y in 1984. I have some history for the car (which was on display at Dees in Croydon) because it was in concours condition. If the present owner wants some info, please respond to this message.
