Hi All,

Been a while since I posted in this section, but I thought I’d stick up my latest car. The last car I put in here was my Alfa Romeo 147 GTA, which I hastily sold in order to fulfill a childhood dream of owning a Subaru Impreza; mistake number 1. Mistake number 2, came in the way of picking the WRX instead of the STI and as such, I pretty much took a step back in every single way from the Alfa.

Given the first opportunity the Impreza was offloaded in exchange for my new car, an Audi TT. Not the last word in performance or dynamics, but I’ve always loved the shape of them – if not so much the stigma attached to both Audi and the TT. It would now appear that I’m a tt in the eyes of those who absorb everything JC says as gospel, and I’m also a ‘fag’ apparently, according the knuckle dragger who felt the need to denounce me in public the other day. I suppose sucking my passenger off didn’t help matters either…

Anyway, enough waffle, pictures;

Plate has been blurred for no other reason than its a questionable private plate that came with the car...I don't want people thinking I had something to do with it! laugh

It began life as a 225, but has had a small fortune invested in it, and has been rebuilt with forged pistons, rods, bigger turbo, fuel pump et al…and is now kicking out just shy of 400bhp. I can’t take credit for any of the engine work; the two previous owners sunk around £16k under the bonnet alone. I paid less than half of that for the whole car.

The car’s done just over 5,000 miles in the past 6 years due to previous owners having multiple cars and so forth, but I intend on using it daily. When I bought the car, I knew it had some running issues – namely a turbo to manifold gasket leak and a cold start issue, but the list of problems when it went in to the local specialist tripled, simply due to the car not being used much – nothing major, just little niggles that add up.

With most of the issues now rectified, ish, I can start to enjoy it more. I know everyone will say ‘should have got a Boxster, S2000, MX5, or basically anything that isn’t a TT’, but I love it. I took it out at Castle Combe the other week and it went very well – even if I have loosened the dash no end thanks to a warped disc!

Plans for it are to give it a few tweaks visually here and there as I can’t stand the nose-down stance of the car, the 19’s look far too big and I'm past the stage of having elastic bands for tires, and the seats offer all the lateral support of an office chair. Oh, and the current coilovers break vertebrae over the smallest of stones, so they’re working their way in to the bin soon too.

For now though, very happy...I'll give it at least six months before I hit the classifieds again laugh

Looks fantastic! Always loved the looks of these. I was toying with getting one but then my Alfa came along and I fell for it.

Looks nice, but how reliable will a 400bhp 4-pot be daily? VAG 1.8T running Mitsubishi Evo power! Has the haldex been tweeked for the power?

Would've gone for something Jap myself for the money but I guess your Subaru experience may have put you off for a while!

As with any engine, if it is built correctly using high quality parts a 400hp 20VT will be fine.

Haldex systems have had far more than 400hp chucked at them and survived, there are a few 700+hp drag cars and as we know 1/4 mile action puts enormous strain on any drive train.

thats VERY nice......

as we know, some total idiots just can't help but shout at audi drivers

this road rage vid (very bad language) where a van driver doesn't read the road ahead and kicks off at the audi driver from the safety of his cab makes me laugh every time!!

Nice TT, an iconic design IMO just like a 911 that will still look good in 20 years.

Nice car OP, such huge tuning potential with the 1.8T 20V. Got a stage 1 LCR with the same engine and i love it. I know someone with 500BHP+ cupra R and he's still got cams to fit.

People always slated the TT as boring to drive, but i borrowed one from work for a week and absolutely loved, really surprised me how good it was.

EDIT

I'd be interested to hear the spec of the engine. biggrin

Thanks for the comments everyone, that road rage is nothing short of hilarious! I'm pretty thick skinned so quite happy to take whatever people shout/ say at me, really couldn't care less - it's just always nice to see people's faces when you wind it on and leave them! The wheels are leaving me in a dilemma I must admit. Visually, they look superb, and it doesn't drive that badly on them, but I know if I went for an 18" alloy with a thicker sidewall, the ride would be so much complacent - especially considering the state of the roads around here.

I was originally intending to take this down a 'Clubsport' type of route, with two buckets, KW Clubsport coilovers and top mounts etc, but having commuted in it for a month or so now, stiffening and removing sound deadening are the last two priorities on the list now! Comfortable, Continent-bashing GT car is looking far, far more appealing to me at the minute...

Thank you! Reliability shouldn't be an issue really, as a couple have pointed out, the 1.8T is capable of running far, far more than it is doing at the minute - save for the little niggles I have that aren't really relevant to the power output, it's been utterly reliable for me and the previous owners (save a blown oil seal on an aftermarket turbo for one of them!). And yes, the haldex has been uprated too, it runs one of these;

http://www.hpamotorsport.com/haldex.htm

And I do understand that Japanese tends to equal default answer to cheap, big power. But I've owned several Japanese cars now, from a Honda Civic to a MX-5, to a 200SX and the Impreza - and despite an overwhelming love for all things Japanese, they've each lasted a little over 5 months. I can't put my finger on it, but each time I've just been left utterly disappointed by the whole ownership. It's not been the same reason each time that I've not enjoyed a car, but I'm yet to come across a Japanese car that I love...here's hoping the R34 I want after this will stop that problem!

I'm hoping to get some more pictures this weekend, and I'll knock together a full spec list of the car too for those asking! Thanks again for the comments, wasn't quite sure how it'd received from the masses!
