My Car History
Discussion
Been on here a long time thought i should put some pictures up
First car at 17 3 cylinder 1.0 corsa. Rubbish realy but at 17 it was freedom and it got me about for 18 months or so. I changed the wheels to standard Vauxhall wheels, this is the only picture i can find at the minute. Mine was the blue one

Next i had a 106 GTI, i wanted one of these for a while so saved up and got one when my insurance was a bit better. I loved this car, i went to Scotland to pick it up. While i had it i had a few different sets of wheels on it.
It ended up with a four branch manifold and pugsport exhaust. It used to pop and bang like mad. Quick little car for what it was, great handling. ( Taught me all about lift off oversteer!!) If i could get hold of a tidy one now i would be very tempted to get another one

Next i had a Civic Type R Premier Edition. I loved the look of these, so again i saved up untill i spotted a good deal. Big mistake after the go kart like feed back of the gti, i hated the electric power steering on the EP3. Sold, well traded it in after 6 months. Couldnt get on with the car at all, lovley engine and gearbox though

I had a trackday pressent off my mum and dad for my 21st, i drove an Elise and loved it. Decided i wanted one to replace the EP3. Checked insurance but found a VX220 Turbo to me cheaper and faster. I fancied turbo power as well. Needed to be red with a hardtop. I loved this car but i crashed it after 6 weeks. Maybe i should of had a 2.2 first to get used to the MR set up. But as a young lad i couldnt be told and learnt my lesson the hard way!

Next i had a shed of a corsa sport just as a stop gap. No pics of this. The head was cracked and used more oil and water than it did petrol! Was nice having a car i didnt care about for a while though.
Corsa didnt stay long and i decided i wanted another 106 GTI. This was a mistake again, i rushed in and endded up buying a Cat D, it was no where near as good as my old red one. Another lesson learnt the hard way!!

Now to my current car. Renault Clio Trophy. I have had this for nearly 3 and a half years. The longest i have kept a car for. Although i keep thinking of changing but trying to be sensible and leave my house deposit alont. For the money i dont think alot comes close. Its nippy, rare, cheap to run and good fun down a country lane. Only mods are a custom stainless exhaust from pro speed (very quiet i didnt want another loud one, the 106 put me off) only added as the standard system was rotting away. Brembo discs and 2500 pads on the front.

I keep thinking of buying an elise, or waiting and getting an exige which is a bit of a dream car for me. But I can see me buying a house and comming back to toys in a few years. I know not very pistonheads sorry.
So that is my car history, thanks for looking.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Spaceman hit the nail on the head about my VXT realy! I was only going slow, then i may have been a little lead footed. Next thing 180 degree spin up the curb and through the garden wall. The wommans garden it was i ended up was not happy!
I was following my mum and dad at the time as well (you can see the silver volvo in the crash pic and behind my civic). They had just gone over the top of the hill when i crashed. I jumped out a bit shaken/ completley gutted. It made a hell of a bang all that plastic and fibre glass! But i was ok, i was probably only doing 15/20mphish when it snapped out on me so i was unhurt. I rang my Dad and he turned around. Couldnt beleive it when i said i had crashed my car!
A couple stopped who were following me and spoke to the police and they said i wasnt going fast or driving dangerously. So after a breath test and a quick statement they were happy enough and on there way.
Thanks Dan i have seen your DC5 about as well, its very nice. I nearly got one instead of my Trophy actualy. But my EP3 put me off Honda's. But from what i have read on the internet the DC5 has a hydraulic power steering rack? So is alot better than the EP3. Looking on your profile you had an ep3 previous to your DC5 how do you think they compare? I have looked at S2000 as well but again the EPS realy puts me off them.
I forgot i had a CBR125 for a year as well. I wanted to do my bike test, i did my CBT and theory but in all honesty i prefer cars. I only did about 1000 miles in the year i had it. I think i would like a R6/ CBR600RR but i would rather put the money up towards a car ( Exige
) feel i would enjoy that alot more.

Steering on the Integra is a lot better buddy, more weight and feel to it. The whole car basically solves all the niggles the EP3 had, such as the rev limit not quite being high enough to keep it in vtec on every gear change, the steering and LSD are the main 2 benefits. I was sceptical that they could be that much better but they really are.
Give me a shout if you want a go in one.

Hi Danielsan sorry i thought i replied to you, only just noticed now i was updating my thread. I would love a look around your DC5 if the offer still stands.
Well I have sold my Trophy, i am buying my first house. My Dad said i could have his Volvo (you can see it in one of the pics) it was the right decsion and made sense. Loved the Trophy but i think it was time for a change as well, although i cant see me having another car for atleast 12 months. Volvo is comfotable, pratical, economical (not that i need it i do less than 100 miles a week). But is boring it isnt me at all but a means to an ends i suppose.
Here are the pics of my Trophy i was going to use in the advert to sell it. I never needed to advertise it though as i mentioned about selling it on the Trophy owners club, someone got in touch viewed it that week end and picked it up the week after. If only all car sales were so easy!!

I would say Trophy and GTI are very similar, the Trophy is an all around better package but i think the GTI was more fun also alot cheaper so in some ways better value for money. Also 106 parts are cheaper than parts for the clio, alot easier to work on as well if you do a bit of DIY spannering.
A few of my mates have had 106's and we have changed engines, gearboxes, clutches, beams ect on the drive. The Clio i only changed the dampers myself when i had the sachs refurbished and changed the oil. Got my Dads mate to do the belts for me as he is a Renault tech and it wasnt a job i fancied doing. To be fair the clio was newer and more reliable. Not that i had many problems with my 106's
I realy did not like the Civic, it was miles better built than the French stuff, engine and gearbox fantastic. It was just the electric power steering i didnt like and couldnt get along with it. To sum it up i think the perfect hatch would be a Trophy with the CTR engine and box. Maybe the rear beam off a 106 GTI as well for lift off oversteer fun!!

Lovely trophy.
Was it someone called Simon who bought your car off you?
Ref the Volvo, I actually really like those.
No he was name Kent. The Volvo i maybe sound a little ungreatful it was nice of my Dad to give it to me. Its alot nicer to drive over long distances than the clio, good for taking my dog out in. I just feel a sports car in the garage would compliment it and make a good two car combo. Was it someone called Simon who bought your car off you?

Btw Billy i meant to say, just go for the VX220 you wont be dissapointed!

Couldn't agree more, the steering in the Ep3 was such a let down :/I would say Trophy and GTI are very similar, the Trophy is an all around better package but i think the GTI was more fun also alot cheaper so in some ways better value for money. I wrote a comparison thread for these cars a while back and came to pretty much the same conclusions
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=133...And i'll definitely have a closer look at the VX220's, probably would go for the 2.2 as my first venture into Rwd motoring :P
Just stumbled across this thread! I went to college with your brother! You made the right decision not getting the 2.2 vx220 the engine doesn't suit the character of the car at all! I also know kent who bought your clio, I saw he'd got one but didn't make the connection! I bought my last evo off him....
