Earlier this year I happened to be lucky enough to come across a nice white G reg Peugeot 205 GTI non sunroof model, just sat in a barn, while looking at some cars owned by a friend of a friend. Before I had a chance to engage my brain, my mouth had already uttered the words: "Do you want to sell it?"

What happened next is I was confronted by a man who's head was saying: "sell it! You'll never get round to it!!¨ but who's heart must have been saying "Do i really want to let this little car go?" Well at least that what I thought judging by the look on his face anyway. So the upshot is I went back the next day with a trailer and headed back home with my new project, feeling very excited, thinking about what I was going to do with it! So thanks for letting it go Nev!

Four months has gone by since then and I have not touched it. Time has been taken up with other cars (namely my other halfs car, and repairs to our road cars, etc) After finally finding a slot I began dismantling it this weekend, what was once a reasonably tidy white 205 GTI is now a very stripped one! So the project has finally begun. Now I just have to keep the project in motion.

The plan is to get it ready (Ready: a drivable state wink) for a local airfield track day at the beginning of September. Tall order? You bet, its only 6 weeks away!

So my Todo list for this deadline is as follows:

Strip.
Buy and fit weld in roll cage.
Prep for paint (properly)
Get it painted white.
Start putting it back together: engine and box in, lights, external trim, seats, fuel and brake lines, etc....
Make and fit polycarbonate windows.
Fabricate instrument cluster, switch cluster, etc
Re wire from scratch including stand alone ECU and O2 sensor.
Map it, MOT it, tax it!

Engine will be a 1.9 8V XU9JA with a be3 1.9 box (or MI16 box if I can get one)
It will be running a 4 branch manifold and group N system. Standard induction for now, but no nasty AFM.

Heres some picks of how I'm getting on so far:

Its all starting to come apart! lots of wires!

Stripped!

Big pile of bits messing up the drive and annoying the neighbours

To be continued...

No, car before the 205 was a VX220 turbo, You must be thinking of someone else. What cage are you putting in your MI16?

Yeah, I thought i'd seen you about on the gti6 forums mate, sorry for my confusion.

The cage is a safety devices 6 point, it was fitted by the previous owner, but I had a mate weld in some door bars which attach to the b-pillar support around shoulder height instead of just above the hip, see pic, you can just make out the brackets for the original bolt in bars.

What day are you gonna be at Marham? I'm there on the Sunday. I look forward to seeing the finished article! (and seeing how it compares to my 106 Rallye!)
