It isn't a very PHs car, but I thought I'd start a thread on it because it has been an interesting/eventful ownership experience over a short space of time. Purchased new at the beginning of April(pics at the dealer). The car has covered over 8k miles already, so the miles are racking up quite quickly.

We didn't get the opportunity to walk around the car on collection day, because basically we paid for it and then got shown how everything works inside, and then we drove off in it. Once I got it back home though I noticed a chip on the centre console, plus a small scratch on the rear door. So it got booked in to change the console and paint the door, the console was done(but not fitted correctly so it had to go back in!), but they couldn't paint the door because all the painters had come down with covid!(in the end we decided not to bother getting the rear door done).

Then on day 9 of ownership a stone hit the windscreen and put an 8 inch crack in it annoyingly, so it now has a none OEM windscreen which frustrated me at the time. Then the drama continued on day 14 of ownership when I was sat at a roundabout and a women in a VW T-Roc ran into the back of me! She said that she didn't see me because she was concentrating on the roundabout(I was fuming to be honest).

Then when it was in for repairs to the rear bumper the repairers cracked the rear light taking the bumper off! So that is going in to be replaced on Monday.

I wasn't a big fan of the chrome on the car(merc don't offer the night pack on this model/we had it on the previous GLC350d though) so I booked it in for a black pack. I'm really happy with the way it looks now, however the radar cruise/collision detection doesn't work now. I had the front grill changed to a panamerica style one, so I presume that the radar sensor has been upset or something. That goes in to be looked at on Tuesday, and hopefully it is an easy fix.

Some pics of the car now.

Overall we are happy with the car(just had a lot of bad luck with it though). It rides really nice with the air suspension, and the 7 seats come in handy for taking my eldest daughters friends out in it. Plus the 2.9 straight 6 twin turbo engine is lovely and smooth for a diesel, and it has a nice turn of pace for something that weighs 2300kg too.

Thanks for reading. smile

Glad to hear it pulls well, if it didn't have enough torque we'd never hear the end of it hehe

Impressive array of early mishaps there!

So true! hehethumbup

It has definitely put us through a roller coaster of emotions that is for sure! One day I'd like it...and then the next day I'd end up hating it! So frustrating.

Another fine choice sir. I like these a lot, especially in blue, but have no desire for such a leviathan!

When I had the misfortune of a stone cracking the wife’s Clubman windscreen, I was in the phone to auto glass and asked the question about a genuine screen, regarding the top up cost. The assistant went to check, and came back and said oh your insurer permits oem glass, with no surcharge! Off they went to order an oem screen!

Can’t rate LV high enough for that!

The new shape looks great!

I am actually just finalising a deal on the old shape 68 plate night edition premium plus.

They are so well specced and the night pack works!

Yours is lovely. I am sure your bad luck is done and you can now enjoy it!

I had a blue GLE300d as a loan car and I really liked that colour. cool

We are with LV and we had a bit of a nightmare with the screen. The LV approved windscreen fitters messed us around and they said that they were trying to get an OEM windscreen but they never got back to us, even though we chased them a couple of times.

So in the end we went with Autoglass(who were great to be fair), but sadly it wasn't an OEM windscreen though.

I wonder if the procedure changed.. our screen was changed around February time having booked it in January. When I phoned LV and pushed the option for windscreen, it just transferred me to autoglass, I never spoke with a human at LV!

Not that I would condone something sinister to happen to the replacement, but I suspect the excess was huge! My golf is something like 150 where her mini was 75!

Lovely car. Such a shame about all the incidents. I’d have to sort that windscreen out. When my much older C63 needed a windscreen I fought for an OEM replacement. I was with LV and used auto glass. LV said their policy was newer and high value cars get OEM glass. Clearly that didn’t matter to them for your car. With your run of luck I’m sure the glass could crack again soon. Be sure to get OEM then!

Very nice way to travel. I had an E400d estate for a year and it was a very impressive motor, the GLE is a bit big for my tastes but undoubtedly a lovely place to be.

Enjoy, and hopefully no more mishaps on the horizon!

Thanks both. beer

This radar issue I have with it is a bit weird. You can use the radar cruise for a bit, but then it sends this message up and it turns it all off for a bit. Then it restores itself back to normal for a bit again. I've cleaned all the cameras but it hasn't made any difference, hopefully they can get to the bottom of it next Tuesday.

Question: does it do it in the same places, e.g. On the motorway in roadworks?

I have had the issue many times with my golf 7 where it would turn off auto cruise with a "no sensor view" error, and I narrowed it down to interference e.g. from motorway camera gantries in the M1 roadworks. It always returns within a few minutes or upon exiting the gantries.

I tried it on one of my local dual carriageways today and it was alright for a couple of miles and then it pinged up and turned it off. I then tried it on my local B road and it was alright for about a half a mile and then it pinged up and turned it off again.

I can't make head or tail of it. I'd never seen that message before until I'd had the different front grill fitted/black pack done though. Strange.

I reckon, along with the base AMG-GT, thats the best resolved and best looking design in Mercedes' current lineup.

It works so well on the two it's almost as if they've taken the overall design from them and applied it to the rest of the range.

Hopefully you've used up all your bad luck and it treats you well going forward - look forward to the updates!

Funnily enough we are both massive fans of the AMG-GT as well. cool

It has had the rear light replaced today, plus they gave it a wash so it did look nice earlier I thought.

I've just got to take it to sort the radar niggles out tomorrow, and hopefully that will get sorted too. smile

Nice.

I'd be gutted about the windscreen. It's one of the things I dread with my car because they're never the same after they've had a replacement fitted. They often damage the paint underneath the screen too for added issues down the line.

That’s a fine looking bus Lee, congrats! I really like the new grille on it too

Can’t beat a 7-seater, even if you don’t always need to use the extra ones

The windscreen doesn't look too bad and it seems to be a decent enough replica. I was just annoyed to lose the little merc emblem like the other windows, plus I lost the little signature that you get with the OEM one.

Cheers Leins. beer

We've only used the 7 seats once...but it is nice to know that they are there if we need them!

A few pics from when I collected it after the black pack/grill was added.
