Update:

Passed the MOT without much of a problem, did get an advisory for bushes though. (Given the shocking state of the lanes around here I'm not surprised, but will hold off changing them for awhile I think)

It threw a couple of errors last night: CHECK VSC and CHECK HYRBRID SYSTEM, along with a nice fat red triangle on the dash.

Battery voltage on the little 12v starter was a bit low, but in context it went flat in late 2020 as dad hadn't been able to use it for awhile and threw similar issues. Checking on the OC indicated the lawnmower spec 12V is usually the route cause of 90% of these errors.

Have ordered up an OE spec battery from Lexus Parts Direct, (£70ish) and will be here in 3 working days. In the meanwhile I've put the trickle charger on the car for now and will see if that brings it up enough to clear the error.

Still a brilliant car. smile

The under the bonnet battery is small and only used to power essential stuff like ECU to enable the main battery, when mine went flat it caused a lot of issues, all kinds of lights and no ready on the dash. I replaced it in the end been fine now for years.

Hopefully not the same company as Toyota Parts Direct who took weeks to delivery bits to me, and when it eventually turned up had with various bits missing.

Battery arrived today, well packaged etc.

Pleased to announce it's solved nothing! hehe

Luckily local Toyota dealer is happy to plug it in to their techstream, so should know more at lunch time tomorrow!

I am assuming you disconnected the battery to.replace it, rather than using some kind of battery saver, settings saver when swapping it out. I found with mine a couple of times just disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes solved a similar issue.

You will.need to reset a lot of stuff after doing it. All windows, the sunroof, seat memory. And the big one LSC see post #8 here https://electricvehicleforums.com/forums/toyota-hi...

Sadly it looks like the inverter coolant pump is suspect, (Code P0A50) this isn't the end of the world, but still a pain and will keep the car off the road for a while longer as I need to verify that it has actually failed, and then get the correct replacement etc.

The guy at Toyota reckoned I should ask Lexus if it was due a recall for this or not! hehe

Good news this morning for old girl, a fresh MOT with no advisories. Just a service, new front brake pads and 2 new tyres in the last year. Covered 7k miles and now just over 155k on the clock. The only suspect issue was a rear ARB bush that has very slight play but not enough to even warrant an advisory. so will replace them soon. Looks like the old girl will battle on for a few years yet.

That's good news! smile

I think my old girl is going to need a raft of new bushes come the next MOT. Current one has some advisories, and our lane is now absolutely wrecked with no signs of the council being prepared to do any repairs; therefore I'm expecting all suspension components to take a hammering frown

(Literally have to take the Supra out a walking pace to avoid damage)

I can recommend the superpro bushes for the front arms. No difference to nvh but the caster increase helps handling. Changing front arms/bushes can be expensive as you have to lift the engine to get the arms undone.

Rear arms can be stupidly expensive.

Thanks for the tip! smile

I remember having to buy entire rear assemblies for the rear of an LS400 because Lexus wouldn't supply just the bush.

I’ve found the trick with Lexus is to either look for the Toyota equivalent part which usually is cheaper or a decent aftermarket brand. Sometimes Lexus prices are astronomical for no apparent reason.

Recent I needed an outer CV joint. £400 from Lexus which would usually be £60 at most from the majority of manufacturers. I got a NAPA one for £27.

Had this a few years ago with the clock spring thing behind the steering wheel, Lexus was a few hundred from the dealer, a couple of hundred from online supplier and the same part for a Toyota about a hundred. Bought an aftermarket Toyota one for £25 and its been fine for years.

I should add, inspite of some negativity pending with the suspension, the Rx400h still continues to be everything I could ask of it.

I did a 500 mile trip in it last week for work, including a jaunt home at 2am to take advantage of the less congested road network to maintain a....higher...speed than you might use if the road was heavily congested.

5 hours like that and not so much as a tink-tink-tink of cooling metal when I got home.

Great to see it still gliding along! biggrin A neighbour has an RX350 of a similar vintage, I think the design has aged really well.

Little update:

MOT is coming up on friday, so fingers crossed for that.

Had a major service a week or two back, cambelt etc and still going strong.

Absolutely love this car; doesn't matter if it's a work job or going shooting it just does it in simple, relaxed comfort. cloud9

Good stuff. I notice from early on in this thread I was thinking of upgrading my IS to an RC, and I still am, the old IS just keeps plodding along and I have never got around to changing it.

Whenever I sit in any newer cars, or have rentals I just miss the nice V6 I have. So might have to get an RX450 next as there seem to be practically zero GS450h on the market with sensible mileage (as I guess people keep them as there's nothing similar to replace them with).

Just watch the insurance on the newer 450's - they are/have been a theft magnet and insurance is seriously expensive, if you can get insurance at all! frown

Very smart car OP, and a huge amount of car & technology for the money.

I used to have a 2017 RX450h Premier with the same colour interior as yours. It was incredibly refined, one of the quietest vehicles I have travelled in, but ultimately I couldn't live with the CVT gearbox so swapped it for an RC F!

As you clearly know, Lexus service & reliability are exceptional. The new RX must be peace of mind after the X5! Enjoy your new motor.
The RCF is an incredible car!

I assume you mean the current RX but as a reference, I just reinsured my 2013 RX and it was about £650 which is £200 more than last year.

It's great to see that RX still going strong. I took mine to Lexus for another service last week and they said all is well, and were pretty comfortable saying it had a lot of life left in it. Even the brake discs they told me needed replacing last year weren't a problem - magical, self-healing brakes! wink

I now understand why people hang on to these things. I've got attached to mine in a way I absolutely did not expect. We've been all over in it - up to Scotland and down to Italy - and it's been superb. I wanted a family road trip vehicle and for that, it's been perfect.

I can't quite figure out why I like it as much as I do. We also have an Audi TT which is better to drive in every measurable way and yet when I need to nip out I almost always take the RX. I don't really know why. There's just something charming and effortless about it.

I feel like as the car gets older and will shortly tick over 100k, I should be thinking about moving on but it really isn't giving me a reason to, and I'm not really sure where I'd go anyway.

Yes, the 2017+ RX's, (Well, pretty much all Lexus from that point onward).

If this one ever dies, or throws a truly ridiculous bill then I'll probably start looking for one of your generation. smile
