Thought I would put up a quick post to show what I have replaced the Tamora with. Last Friday I picked up a Seal Grey 996 911 Turbo. My dream car that I had aimed to purchase by my 23rd birthday but after an excellent year and finding a bargain I got one early. Insurance is a killer still being 21 but not a huge rise from the TVR and worth every penny when I am in the drivers seat smile . Anyway heres a quick picture. Will be updated shortly with full specs and photos after I have detailed it. I will also be completing numerous jobs on it over the next few months to get it as immaculate as my Tamora the journal will be regularly updated with my OCD ways.

I am a student but run a business selling used carp fishing tackle and also have built my way up with cars starting from a £3000 mk6 fiesta. Every 3-6 months I sell my car and try to make a good profit on each whilst adding to my car fund. Like the property ladder but with cars...I have aims for each birthday as to what level car I want to have progressed to, as to give me a major drive to earn money!

Insurance is excellent thanks to admiral once again... online quote came out at £1349 but a phone call and explanation of how I have spent thousands with them in the last few years resulted in the chap coming back with a quote of £1106 after speaking to his manager. That is a 12 month policy and I usually have the 10 month policy which would have came out at less that £1000. That is with 0 years no claims as my no claims bonus are on my shed (2000 Mondeo) that I use to get to my university work placement and my fishing wagon.

The performance is yet again in another level even to the TVR. It pulls so strong and grips like its on rails. The built quality for a 10 year old car is second to none. Even with the loud exhaust there are no rattles to be heard inside or outside of the car. It feels so useable be it a cross country blast or a short journey through town to the gym. So far so very good!

List of jobs so far for the car:

To source a set of silver standard hollow spoke wheels and sell the black set (they have only just been refurbed in black by the previous owner and seems a shame to put back silver as they are truly immaculate... just not to my taste)

Remove and sell the Fabspeed exhaust (100 cell cats) and put the original one on that I have. (again not to my taste to noisy)

Respray Front bumper due to a few stone chips (still choosing a bodyshop for this so any midlands bodyshop reccomendations appreciated!)

Refurb Calipers due to lacquer peel causing them to look pink in areas and put fresh Porsche Decals on them.

Fit new front discs and pads (already got them as part of the sale)

New Rear Tyres (hopefully the set of silver wheels I get will come with good tyres)

Full Protection Detail

Full Gliptone Interior leather Clean

Re attach/replace exhaust heatshields

I will take more photos very soon just need the chance to give it a proper clay/polish/wax etc. Hopefully going to a Porsche show on Sunday in Warwick smile

leicestershire... its weird Its more expensive to insure things like civic type r's at my age than this. Its something to do with statistics I have been told. More 21 yr olds have crashed hot hatches than 911 turbos. Admiral will insure me on pretty much any supercar for this sort of price. Although I did a quote on my dream car a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale which came out over £2000. you need a parent and a girl around the same age as you as named drivers to get the best quotes. also park it on the street if you want to save a few hundred. weird I know but I save £300-400 a year by having it on the street rather than the garage. Do some admiral quotes yourself to see. People assume its cheaper to garage the car or park it on the driveway but with Admiral/elephant etc its the oppposite

my best quote for an 88 m3 is circa 7.5K!!!and im 21 as well.
most places wont even give me a second look me let alone give me a quote.
No need to try comparison sites etc just go straight to admiral. There is no way they will quote you anymore than £3000 on any car at any age. make sure you have at least two other named drivers

Epic car at 21 laugh well done! can i ask what you do for a living? i know a lot of people don't like to answer that question but i think its really good especially for the younger guys to have people to aspire to.
I put earlier in the thread how I afford my cars. I am a business student at De Montfort University but use my hobbies to earn money which Is very enjoyable. I graduate next year so trying to get through as many cars on my dream list before I sell to invest in a business/career this time next year smile It all started when I was 17 and wanted to see how quick I could turn a 3 grand fiesta into my dream car a Ferrari 360 challenge stradale (which I serverely lust for!) I set the target for my 25th Birthday so got 3 and a bit years to build up another 80k or so...

Seriously though, while I admire and share your passion for cars, I just don't see where age is relevant to letting us see your car. While you must be proud, and rightly so, there's "showing" and then there's "showing off."

Maybe I am an old crank (is 28 old?) but there's a fine line between being a petrol-head and a young lad living beyond your means. Driving a supercar as a student?! Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm guessing you don't have a mortgage, kids and bills to pay, geezer!

I might go back living with my parents and buy a Rolls Royce!

By the way, nice car; I too drive a 911 Turbo!
I am in no way showing off I work my arse off to pay for my cars its just to show that insurance is possible on cars like this at my age as alot of people think that it is not possible. It is also to show that with drive you can get things that you want if you work hard enough and I am not living beyond my means in the slightest... on the limit yes but pushing myself like this has got me where I am.

This is a thing that really bugs me as people instantly say things like "bet your parents bought it" I pay more board to my parents than some people I know pay rent. And I have freinds that didnt go university and are in quite well paid car sales jobs that don't pay a penny to live at home and still get there phone bills paid for them etc... Only reason I havent got a mortgage yet is because I am a student with no full time job so that will have to wait until next year when I will be buying a few properties to let from money made on cars I have owned. rant over...

Forgot to mention that once you are 21 admiral will insure you on anything (not tested a veyron)change your date of birth to make you 21 to see what sort of prices you will have to pay once you hit that magical insurance age!

Thanks for all the comments smile Well what a long day started at 12:30pm and only just got in from spending the whole day cleaning the car ready for the Porsche show tomorrow.. Will hopefully get some good pictures tomorrow. The day has consisted of washing the car with the 2 bucket method, claying the car, re wash and dry, 3 coats of autoglym SRP, 2 coats of Collinite wax and all plastic trims dressed.

Also had a right result with the calipers that I thought I would need to repaint. I took the drivers side front wheel off and cleaned the caliper then spent a good 20 minutes with meguiars scratch X which has brought the caliper back to a shiny red. the pictures show the difference between the passenger side which I haven't touched and the drivers side with a coat of heat resistant wax to protect the finish

Passenger side (faded pink where lacquer has peeled):

I wouldn't normally comment on something like this but..............

You're paying a large monthly rental to live with your parents.......You're saving up and buying a 360CS in two years...... next year you're also buying a FEW properties, paying for uni throughout all of this and ALSO running a 996 turbo.............

This is being funded by selling second hand fishing tackle and making a grand or two on car sales once a year.

I love one sided stories.

Best of luck chap.
Taking it the wrong way again... Its all about ambition. There is no way I can afford a Ferrari 360 CS currently and I am not saving up specifically I am hoping for a business to have taken off by then. Its just a target in life. I am hoping to do well in business life... I set the high targets to give me drive when I am up till the early hours packing orders I have sold. I graduate next year and thats when I can look to get a proper business started. I have a huge passion for business and just strive to do well. Maybe I just shouldn't have posted my age. It never caused a problem on the TVR thread... can we just stay on topic and keep opinions about my age out of my car journal...

Picked up the new wheels for it this afternoon after the show. I will be doing a decent photo shoot of it in the next week or so. I have just been and done the tyre pressures with the new wheels and got a quick snap with my phone. Opinions on the wheels? I think it looks much better OEM!

Great purchase. Age and income are irrelevant.

Can we have more pictures of the car please. Before and after the details if possible, always nice to see how they clean up.

If you don't mind how many miles and how much was it? Starting the get the porsche bug myself.
Car has 82,000 on the clock, Dont want to disclose the price as I will be selling it on for more obviously... It was a very very good buy and I am selling the sports exhaust next weekend which gives me another £1000 which I will use to get it perfect. I put a deposit down subject to inpection on the car within hours of it going up for sale.

The car does not show its miles except for the front bumper which is quite badly chipped... not for long though!

Not wanting to take this OT again, but I just don't understand you NOTB. Why is annoying that a young chap wants to live at home and spend his money on a nice car instead of moving out and living like a pauper?

Why would that be annoying to you? He is losing money on a depreciating asset, and losing more money on running it, fixing it, fueling it, rather than putting his money into a safer investment (house) or throwing it away renting and driving a st box around. Again, how is that annoying?

Is it annoying when you pull up next to a young kid in a car worth more than the average spotty teenager? Or newer than yours? Do you have to justify it to yourself that your costs of living are higher which is why they are seemingly doing better than the average on the roads? I can't see anything else that would wind you up about this, does everyone need to live a megre existance folling the trend like sheep to buy old crap cars and not want to stick their heads above the line? Ultimately, the only person that suffers from being foolish with money at a young age, is the person spending it. Why are you so bothered about their situation?

This chap above is managing his priorities, he's making some cash, he's studying, he's probably getting some help from his parents maybe in his business, maybe buying properties, what's wrong with that? Is it unfair that his folks worked hard and did well to provide for their son? So he can have more than the average 21 yr old? Should they have thrown him out at 16 and told him to get a job and live in a council flat? I don't get it? We're not all born equal, if you have a problem with that, take it up with your folks or your grandparents and ask them why they weren't as successful as you wanted them to be.

OP - great car, well done, I wish I was that entreprenuerial at your age to both study and make some cash on the side to enjoy fast cars. I studied and had a SWMBO, no time/energy for much else. Study hard, keep making cash, and by the end of your 20s you'll have enjoyed some more very tasty cars I'm sure! You'll find the TT very different to the RWD TVR, the TT will grip like nothing you've experienced before and will most likely be a bit more reliable. What I want to know is what do the ladies your age make of someone in a motor like that? Is it a turn on, or turn off - serious question, I'd imagine some will love it, and some will prob have a misconception about you just from taking a look at the car... how have you found it?
Well my girlfriend of four years has not interest in cars whatsoever and hasn't really liked any of my cars especially the loud TVR. She liked my Limited edition Audi TT Quattrosport I had a couple of years back. Just doesn't agree to how much attention and money I spend on cars either... I had the same question asked by various people at the TIPEC Porsche show today.

Who said anybody is driving around town, giving it large? You seem to have the impression that the OP is some sort of wannabe rap star, who has bought the car simply because it is expensive and everyone else knows it is expensive.

From my point of view all I can see is a young lad (ironic for me to term you as such, OP, as I'm only barely older than you - but I've always felt older than my years hehe ) who is a real petrolhead and has worked his arse off for some nice metal, real enthusiasts' cars, to get where he is today. If your assessment of his personality was true then surely his car history would surely contain far more Ferrari MR2s and BMW 318ci M-Sports, rather than an Audi TT Quattro, Tamora etc.

Perhaps your preference was to move out and spend your money on a grotty flat somewhere for a few years - the OP's was to spend his on some great cars that, should he have followed the same course as you, he would be unlikely to be able to afford for many years. It's a shame that his accommodation status means that the cars are less impressive to you, because it's the same machine whether it is parked outside a 3m mansion or a mobile home.

Personally, as a petrolhead, I'd rather have a brilliant car than slightly better accommodation. I'll confess it's actually formed part of an argument with my wife hehe - £15k, for example, doesn't get you particularly much further in house quality, but can get you into some seriously good toys of the wheeled variety.

More power to you OP - can't wait to see what you buy next. With your trading-up strategy, you must surely be approaching F-car territory soon?
I Should make a tidy profit on this car so next car on the list is a noble M12 GTO 3R I actually test drove one a few months ago and to be honest it scared the s**t out of me! it was running 400+bhp and was set up very well. It had the same " I want to kill you" attitude of the TVR in the corners.... I also looked at a very cheap ferrari 360 spider in silver which I got offered through the trade in winter at very low 30's but it would have been stretching me too much. Having see it being retailed at £43,995 at the start of summer I think I missed a very good oppurtunity frown

Great car and achievement, it looks much better with the OEM wheels. I don't think 82k is a great deal for one of these - I'm sure they will do 150k+ with regular servicing.
I can't beleive how solidly built they are to still feel fresh at 80+k It has just had a full polybush kit fitted all round at a cost of £1000 plus so the handling is sublime...

There is someone with a 996 turbo on an american forum with 238,000 miles and its still on the original clutch and hasnt had any major faults just consumables! I have seen a few for sale over the last year with 130,000+ miles.

Aslong as a cars maintained correctly mileage is irrelevant...

You got an amazing deal on insurance there buddy

I tried doing a quote for an M5 (E39, 2002 car).... Me and girlfriend as named drivers, both 25, both held licence for 7 years, NCD for 7 years, parked in residential parking in loughborough, 10k miles a year and they quote £1800. Loughborough must be full of twoc'ing scum buckets.
M3's and M5's along with evos and imprezas are the most expensive to insure. if you want an M car with cheap insurance through admiral the only way is to get a z3m or z4m coupe they are MUCH cheaper to insure than m3's.

Also strangely it was more expensive for me to insure a standard 911 carrera than a turbo. I have done quotes on pretty much every car out there.

I was considering making an excel file with a list of the cheapest to insure young high performance cars. Its surprising the differntials in quotes to performance. Insurance groups mean nothing... it all statistics

So in your opinion everyone has to have a mortgage, kids and bills to pay! NOT EVERYONE wants to be part of the "RAT RACE" and have a mortgage etc! At the end of the day if the lad wants to buy a 911 turbo, he will buy a 911 turbo. Sure loads of people could sell the houses they live in, buy a Ferrari etc and move back in with their parents but thats up to them.

Your only young once. This guy is simply doing what he wants and not following the more common way of life of getting a mortgage etc.
EXACTLY... I am getting all these cars I want at the moment before I end up being tied down with a mortgage etc. I am grasping the opportunity whilst I can... you never know whats going to happen to you so I will make the most of it!! doing what I have been doing with my cars has been awesome earning a bit of cash to be able to run these cars and have some left over is great. If I hadnt kept changing cars I would still be in a mk6 fiesta worth around 2k but instead I now own a good asset that I paid for in cash meaning I am well set up for a house deposit WHEN the time comes...
