Well here she is, some of you may have read my previous post in the GG pages. Bought this tonight of my mate for £200. Its a Saab 900 talladega 2.0, 130k miles and 8 months tax, new brake pads and recently serviced. Its the best £200 i've ever spent! The seats are so comfy its untrue and i love the little touches as the night mode on the dash and instruments when it turns off the unnecessary dials and lights, its just so cool! Heres a couple of pics, sorry for the poor quality. i'll keep you updated with my adventure with my essentially free car smile

Ok so I thought I'd do a little update. All is not well in the Saab camp, the car I bought to run around in is playing up and I'd like some advice if anyone can help. Basically the engine is cutting out when the revs drop to idle at around 1k. Its like its stalling. This is happening when sitting stationary at lights etc and when changing gear at low speeds, very problematic as you can imagine, hill starts are now a delicate ballet of rev holding at 2k biting points and a stiff handbrake. I've looked at the air filter, all is ok there, I tried unplugging the sensor cable going into the air box and that killed the car in the same way it's been doing it itself, I'm really hoping its a simple fix as I currently have 2 cars both off the road and biking in the cold is a bloody chore!

It's most likely to be your idle air control valve. Over time and miles they get gunged up, causing what you describe.

Do some googling - you can clean it out easily yourself and have a nice smooth idle again. Carb cleaner spray and some light oil are all you need. I remember having to do the one on my old GM900.

Here are some instructions:

eta You might find there's a fault code stored:

http://www.saabcentral.com/~munki/technical/engine...

You only need a piece of wire to check - nothing fancy! These cars are very simple and easy to fix for what they are, and there are plenty being broken so nothing is expensive spares-wise.

Nice choice, but have you checked the paperwork carefully to make sure you've bought a SAAB, singular? The last thing you want is to get home and find you now own a struggling Nordic car manufacturer.
