So after a visit to a country show last month I have had more of a hankering for a family capable retro cruiser. I am a merc man, and have had a few w124 and currently own a s210 e430. So when I saw this on eBay a cheeky bid was needed.

Anyway I won it, had to put the family weekend trip on hold while I took an early train to Manchester to buy the car, bring it home then leave it while I went away for three nights.

The owner was a really honest gu who didn't seem to need the money, he had spent lots on maintence and was moving onto an early SL so this had to go.

It is from 1989, 87k, in Midnight Blue, the previous owner to him had it retrimmed in leather from the velour, and it looks good with its blue piping. It's had new springs and shocks, dunlop p6000 sports all around brand new nearly, a/c converted to r123, lots of other bits, inside it has most of the toys you really need and a nice aftermarket Bluetooth which is discrete.

I got it insured with Flux for a good deal, and now need to use it. I have a few jobs to do as the drivers seat lift motor is twisting the seat slightly. Other than that I cannot think wha else but to enjoy it.

Thanks everyone. Coming home every night and seeing her sat there makes me smile.
The interior is a retrim from the previous previous owner. The wife apperently wanted they blue piping so the retrimmed the velour it had. It's a good job and very soft leather.

That looks lovely - I do like a good W126, and it looks to be in great condition. What are the areas to watch on these?
Suspension can be tired, rust on the rear scuttle at the bottom of screen can be hard to spot, screens are not bonded so can leak and cause the rot. Otherwise simple electrics, vacuums for locking etc so it's a pump and maybe a pipe leak if not. Otherwise pretty simple and buy the owner I would say, mileage is irrelevant. Trim can be expensive to buy ESP the brightwork, so budget for that wisely if it needs new chrome.

I looked at the switch motor on drivers seat, just a clean of the contacts has sorted that. Gave the car a quick Clay and polish and its come up a treat. Would really like a DA polish to be done on it.

Need to investigate the CD changer not working, otherwise its off to the Enfield Pagent of Motoring at the weekend.
