Hi

Dunno if we are allowed to "name names" but had really good service from Guildford OPC this week.

Efficient, friendly, accomodating and all round good service.

The only downside was that they loaned me a Cayenne for 2 days & now the wife wants one......

Was in there 2 weeks ago and had great service. Back in tomorrow for new shock absorber fortunately under warranty. Only trouble is the 3 week notice to get a loan car!!

Guildford have always been really good with me. Prefer them to Reading - although Reading seem largely fine too!

The only problem with getting yer car serviced there is the temptation to empty the bank account into some of the fine machinery they always seem to have lying around...

Sorry, have to disagree. Bought a new car from there and the service while it was on order was terrible. I'd occassionally turn up by motorbike to check the status and would be treated like an alien. Turn up in my car wearing a suit and they're licking your a**se.

More recently needed a new immobiliser system installed on my 993tt. Took 3 attempts an 3 visits. Cost me alot of ££££ due to my time there since I'm self-employed. Each visit was about 3 hours.

Won't use them for anything again in the future.

On the contrary, service in an OPC in Germany, where I also bought a new car was and still is exemplary.

In the UK I'll stick with GT One in Cherstey, light years ahead for servicing , advice and simply being nice when you turn up.

Just got a text message from OPC Guildford reminding me I am booked in tomorrow. Is this normal?

No, normally a good dealer will call you instead of using the cheapest option such as a text.

Think I prefer the non-intrusive text than being called even if it is cheaper.

Have to agree with silver993tt,
Had warranty work done there twice on my week old tt and both times it was returned with dings to both doors. Whilst they paid dent master to repair them you can still see the dings slightly and it should never have happened in the first place. Brand new £104k car and its parked tightly in their customer car park.

I have to put my 2p's worth in and agree with the majority that Guildford are a very capable OPC.

I bought my first Porsche from them as Darrell Law was the only sales person in any of the dealerships I visited who bothered to come and speak to me.

5 cars later I am still getting good service and am always treated very well.

Ok some of it might be that I only let one "technician" work on my car and only deal with one person on the front desk and always remember them at Christmas but I have always looked upon Porsche ownership as a two way street. The more you out in the more you get out.

And I like the TXT message business, I always forget when I am supposed to take the car in and this is a nice reminder.

Looks like we have a nice little "clique" here. I've noticed quite a few on this forum.

Its only people's experiences.
I hardly think anyone would say they got great service when they didn't, just to agree with people.

I have used GT One too & always had good service. Am I in your clique now

Well, how do you know the technician you agreed to work on your car actually did the work, unless you stood over him while he did it?

It certainly is a two way street, I give them tens of thousands of pounds and I expect quality in teh goods and service. Am I supposed to buy the sales guy a bottle of whisky for Christmas?

I never received a single call or text in 9 months of waiting for a new car. I always had to take the initiative to contact them first.

Also, 5 weeks after taking delivery of my car they announce a price reduction (Boxster S). I expect the difference to be refunded but instead get a "standard" reply from Porsche GB saying this was "not possible". Thanks a bunch Porsche UK

I'll never buy a car from an OPC in the UK again and have persuaded others not to do so either.

Adam, I'm toying with the idea of having the engine on my car converted into the RUF Turbo R spec (by RUF of course!). What's the deal with getting the car serviced? Do I have to have this done by RUF during the warranty period or can I go elsewhere (due to location)?

Does being a member of this forum qualify me as being in a clique?

No, it does not.

People are always quick to damn, and rightly so, but do not seem to be so quick to praise.

Where ever you go and whom ever you deal with there will always be opposing views.

I have a very good experiance with Guildford and a poor one with Colchester. I know others that will say the reverse.

How do I know that it is only my chosen technician that works on my car? I do not.

The same can also be said of any garage you use, either in or outside of the network.

However I "trust" that he carries out the more specialist work and he is always very knowledgable about what has been done when he comes out to speak to me when I collect the car.

Again, just my 2p's worth.

lol @ 'clique' I'm with silver993tt here...had GODAWFUL service in general from OPCs (apart from my one recent visit to Park Lane where I was treated well - fair play!) in particular Cardiff who are USELESS!

It took AGES for a salesman to get to me (and they knew I was looking at TT or GT3, so hardly low end stuff...), when the guy did eventually slink over to talk to us, it quickly became clear that he was SADLY lacking in product knowledge...suffice it to say that I wasn't interested in bloody alcantara roof linings when he'd failed to identify whether the car had X50 or a sport exhaust...he also tried to pander to my girlfriend about the 'leather comfort seats' (she's a super-glam petrolhead who redlines her Z3M roadster everywhere On top of all that they refused a test drive (needed a whole week's notice!) Not impressed!

Interestingly, I was in the Ferrari side of the same dealer recently looking at a F430, and they were totally different...took really good care of us and had LOADS of product knowledge along with an 'feel free to oversteer it Sir' attitude Not that I'll be trading my GT3 (especially when I add some Manthey DNA in the next few weeks)

Porsche need to take note...NOW. I won't ever buy a £big ticket car from idiots like that...and I don't like wandering around the showroom for 25min without anyone showing the courtesy to even speak to me or offer coffee etc.

Well, I don't think I'm quick to damn since I praised the German OPC, GT One and the wheel refurb company that I used

After all, these guys at the OPC where they charge sky high rates for labour and their cars aren't just doing us a favour. They're getting serious amounts of cash to deliver a high quality product and a high quality service with highly knowledgable staff. I expect all three when spending so much money. When I don't get it I'll advertise the fact and by doing so will help all who come in contact with them in the future. The more that do this the more we would all benefit from better quality and value for money.

Well, I've had cracking service from both OPC Guildford and GT One.

I dropped into the OPC for a bottle of engine coolant for my Box S, which is now nearly 5 years old. Service manager attended to me straight away, knew exactly what I wanted and had it to hand. Couldn't have been better service and I only spent £6.46 with them. Also bear in mind this was a Saturday morning when they were busy having folk pick up their cars from servicing. So good for me.

However due to the labour rates at the OPC and age of my car I got Peter & Craig and crew at GT One to service my car and they have done a great job. Normally when picking up my other day to day car from a service I'm in and out of the door in 5 minutes. Picking up from GT One I got chatting to Peter about all things Porsche and it took about 45 minutes before I actually got out of the door My impression is that they are a top bunch of blokes who care about your car as much as you do. No vested interest, just a very happy customer.

Although I have never used an OPC, from the various posts in this forum, it strikes me that a lot of these guys suffer from the same problems that Ford, Vauxhall etc have. Basically the main dealers are crap, don't give a damn and are staffed by muppets who can't be bothered to do their jobs.

Service is a word they simply don't understand. When buying our family car, it was impossible to get a salesman to take any interest, let alone call us back. You wouldn't have thought that you were stood there with a wad of cash to spend. And the Ford dealer scratched the car and then took three attempts to correct it and in the process painted the rear seat, and then had the audacity to ask me to make a contribution.

We bought the 911 from independant specialist Gmund in Yorkshire. Andrew and the guys couldn't do a better job, friendly, knowledgeable and excellent relaxed service. Can never spend less than an hour or so chatting per visit.

We visited several specialists in the area and they were all excellent, although the chap at Malton did ask my wife if she had stalled the car on a test drive, which was a little patronising. But at least they talk to you like your somce kind of idiot.

But as others have said, where I found incompetence some found good service. Everyone makes mistakes, but sometimes it seems that some make more than others.

IMHO of course!
