I’ve been borrowing a Ferrari 360 Spider for the past 10 days and it has made me appreciate what an amazing car my 996tt is. The 360 is fantastic; it looks and sounds great and there is a real sense of occasion when you go out in it. However, apart from that, the 996tt wins every time. Its quicker, smoother, handles better, grips better, has better gear ratios and inspires more confidence than the 360. Despite the fact that it’s a turbo I feel that the 996tt's power delivery is much smoother than the 360's. The 996tt is at home on the open road as it is around town whilst the 360 is a bit cumbersome round town. Of course, the fact that the 996tt has rear seats, is more reliable and cheaper to run make it a no-brainer for me.

So, would I want to own a 360? Yes, simply because it feels so special when you go out in it. However, I would only want one as a third car if we had a small car and a family car as well. That way, the 360 would only come out for weekend fun. As a two car family where we have a small car plus one other, that one other has to be a 996tt. For a car that has to be used for more than just weekend fun, that feels as comfortable round town as it does on the open road and has room for a baby in the back, there is nothing that can touch the 996tt!

I have lusted over Ferrari's since I were a wee lad....never quite had the courage to take the plunge on the Financial front.

I have a 996tt at the moment. I agree with BarryJ comments... for me the 360 is head and shoulders in front of the 996tt in the looks and sounds... and it does feels so special to drive.

In reality though it is not as fast or as usable and dare I say it as cheap to run as my 996tt....

Does not stop me wanting one though....

A 360 is more expensive than a 996tt for something of similar age. However, for £70k you could buy either a 360 or a 996tt thats 3yrs younger so there is overlap in their prices and owning a 996tt doesn't mean that you can't afford a 360. If I owned both, I'd still end up driving the 996tt more than the 360 because the 996tt is a better car but every now and then I'd want to drive the 360 just because...

Have to agree with you Barry.....The 360 has a certain occasion about it but sometimes you just don't want an occasion.

I've done the 360 thing and I personally don't like the attention which can be quite negative at times and certainly tiresome. With the Porsche you just don't get that.

If you want a fast car that that you can wring its neck then its gotta be a Porsche....And it will always come back for more.
