I've done the search, read all the threads from the last few years and I'm still none the wiser if I'm honest!

What toddler seats (to fit a 2-4 year old) will actually fit in the back of a 996? I can tell you that the Maxi Cosi Priori XP definitely does NOT fit. The base is far too wide. But I gather the SPS version of this same seat does fit - probably, so I presume the base is narrower without the seat belt tensioner? Could someone confirm this first hand?

Any alternatives that a) definitely fit in the rear of a 996 from first-hand experience b) are still available brand new and c) are not the Porsche branded seat!

BTW I've removed the seat back to make more room and don't have ISOFIX.

Thanks

Have you found a car yet?

I'm also interested in this I tried a Britax Prince which I was told fitted but no chance in my cab.
My boy is only 16 weeks so I have some time yet to find one.

Being a cab I dont want one with a large base as it will lift him up into the wind.

Doesn't seem to get good particularly good reviews as a child seat and is clearly a rip-off price. Not interested in second hand seats either.

Yes we went for a nice 996 C2 in the end to save some cash. Very pleased with it so far too.

I'm off to trawl the shops for a seat now, so will report back later. We started off looking at cabs and noted that there is significantly less room in the back than a coupe. Even tried our Maxi Cosi Priori XP in a 996 cab and it was a total non-starter. It would have been okay in the coupe if the base was narrower. My short list to try is:-

Britax Prince - hopefully will fit the coupe!
Britax Evolva 1-2-3
Recaro Young Expert
Recaro Young Sport
Maxi Cosi Priori SPS - Presuming the base is narrower than the XP without the belt tensioner.

All of these seem to have been mentioned in previous threads with mixed opinions on whether or not they fit

Recaro Young Sport not very nice fit. Bit wide at the front of the base. My sear back is in place.

We use it in another car and I wouldn't use it in the 996.

Thanks Helen, but not interested in used seats. He also wants £100 for the remaining used one! I actually just bought a brand new Britax Prince for £60 from Toys R Us but it's a different model to the used one you mentioned. It fits in place quite well with the seat back and pad removed (but still pretty marginal on width) except frustratingly the seatbelt anchor point is way too far forward, making it impossible to tension the lap belt. Been pulling my hair out trying to secure it in place! Given up for today now it's gone dark but will sleep on it and try again tomorrow. But it's not looking good and suspect I'll be back to square one shortly.

Well that's further than I've got so far! I had a final attempt at fitting the Britax Prince today and pronounced it unusable. I tried it with/without the seatback and seatpad fitted and in all the various recline positions. It physically fits in place quite well, but the seatbelt anchor points on the car are too far forward to tension the lapbelt properly.

I've never heard of Nania but a quick google throws up some very mixed reviews. I'm not sure I'd trust it to be honest, but if it fits securely that's half the battle. I'm off to this place tomorrow for some advice.

I'm guessing you've looked at these Recaros, you know I'm no child seat expert though...

Yes thanks, those Recaros are on my shortlist, but haven't had chance to try them yet. I thought choosing the car would be the hardest part, but I think I've spent longer on choosing baby seats wink

I dont suppose anyone knows if you can get one of the from birth babyseats to fit.

I have 6 months of planning yet but need to replace my s2000 with a more sensible car and a 996 c2 seems a good compromise

I believe they do fit, but take up a lot of front seat space. I haven't had first hand experience, but do have a Maxi-Cosi rear facing baby seat I can try out for you. I suspect it will fit as the base is much smaller, but as it's rear facing I think it will eat into the front seat space. Will let you know later.

We've currently got a maxi-cosi cabriofix and it fits in 996 cabrio, just.
The passenger seat has to be quite forward & upright, as does the baby seat but it does go.
Once I get the chance to play around with cushions etc I should be able to get it to fit in better, despite the upright rear bulkhead of the cab.
In a coupe, taking out the rear seat cushions should result in a decent amount of space.

Be really interested to see what results you come back with, I am having similar issues with car seats in my 997... I need one for my 2 year old and 4 year old and have tried a lot of the recommended seats but they just don't seem to fit.
