A old colleauge of mine e-mailed me to tell me he is interested in the Porsche C7. Not wanting to look like an idiot does anyone know what it is. Is it a 911 shape ??

Tried Google but not found out much

This is the new coupe version of the Boxster due out later in the year;

www.autocar.co.uk/news_article.asp?na_id=213050

tell him you are particularly waiting for the clubsport version, to see if it lives up to the old 968 CS,, but not sure if it is actually worth the 50k asking price.....

sounds an odd thing to do, I thought the Boxter was very popular and cheaper than the 911. By putting a coupe lid on it are the not just making a cheaper 911

Not quite just a cheaper 911, as 911 rear engine 2+2 seats, Box mid engine 2 seats.

Obviously I'd think its gunna take a few base 996 sales despite that tho.

It's going to be called "Cayman".

Everyone will call it "Gayman".

What on earth do the marketing people do for their money at Porsche ? I saddens me to the core knowing that a company so great as Porsche is clearly managed by such a bunch of dick heads, and I choose my words carefully - don`t you dare edit it either, these are my views not PistonHead`s. I would happily stand in front of the chairman of Porsche himself and repeat myself word for word. (Incidentally I refer to Porsche AG in Germany not Porsche UK - their hands are tied and they can only make the best of the bad job Porsche AG deal them !).

You might as well put a big arrow on the side of each car pointing to the driver`s window with the caption I take it up the sh*tter. Is there a person on this forum who would buy a car called a Gayman. Even homosexuals wouldn`t want to drive such a stupidly named car.

Obviously what has happened is that Porsche struck a monster deal when they ordered their gearboxes from the land of the rising sun and got the Japs to throw in a dozen car names as well !

PANAMERA is a possible name mooted for C7.

Perhaps the marketing men are earning their euros with the Gayman "scam".

If only they were that bright. I have it on (sadly) extremely good authority that it will indeed be called the gaylord, sorry *rse bandit, sorry gayman no - Cayman that`s right!

Possibly they will get togather with some discussion groups in the meantime and change it prior to release but who knows. Isn`t design by comittee just the worst thing. They`ll be getting Huddersfield borough council to design the replacement for the 997.

Incidentally why does an RSJ advert appear beside each of my postings ?

So what would you like the new car to be called, perhaps we could collect a load of ideas, trim the rubbish and send the result to Porche Germany. Might be nice to have a car running amound that we have named

So, outside Germany, their largest markets are the US and the UK, both of which speak English. They call their new car Gayman.

Absolute genius.

Bloody hell - why don't they just call it a Boxster Coupé? Cayman indeed, grumble, mumble...

I also would have though outside the box, (no pun intended), and called it a Boxster coupe.

Incidentally what is an economy of concentration when it`s at home ?

This is what happens when you let accountants run a firm. It's happening all over the place at the minute.

No disrespect to accountants intended (you're very good at running accounting firms), but engineers need to get back at the helm.

The Cayenne may have propped up their finances, but it's hardly what Porsche is (should be) all about. And now they're going to confuse their own model line up somewhat.

If this coupe were lower priced then they'd have a 968 replacement. Maybe they could also do a 928 replacement and get things back into sensible shape.

The name could well change when it gets here though. Toyota changed the MR2 for France and a number of other firms have done it. Who knows.

PS What about a Cayman in rubystone
