Have the new 997 GT3s pushed UP values of the 996 GT3s?

The pessimists were predicting that the values of 996 GT3s and RSs would plummet when the new 997 GT3 models came on stream.
Early days, I know, but is this the case, or is it quite the reverse?

The price pressure came when the production start date of the 97 GT3,and especially, the RS, were announced.
Personally, I think the new GT3 and RS have further enhanced the whole 'GT3' concept.
'GT3' is now a more clearly defined and established generic term for Porsche's driver focused 'road and track' models.
And, with prices of the new 997 GT3 and RS models at £85k to £100k++, the 996 GT3s are looking very attractive value. So, I reckon demand (and therefore prices) should firm up. Of course, eventually, 997 GT3 prices will ease. But, with models, prices and specifications to suit a wider cross section of customers, the whole 'GT3' sector should remain pretty healthy and resiliant.
It's getting late, but I hope that makes sense.

Or, might it be the possibility that a nicely sorted GT3MkII(RS) with Manthey engine conversion should comfortably outrun a 997GT3 ?
And make a better track car ? (No PASM ???)
And make a better track car ? (No PASM ???)
Sometimes I wonder...... first, on lap times http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordschl
996 GT3 RS 7:47, 997 GT3 7:39 , how
But what really makes me wonder is this.... your saying you can buy an old car, with old styling, and aftermarket upgrades, and it MIGHT be slightly quicker than the 997 GT3.
If we just wanted to go fast, then we'd soup' up some skylines.

Dont forget the 997 has trick tires on the car !
Im sure with a set of Michelin Cups the 996 RS will knock a lot more time off the
time quoted
We will see this year when the track season is in full swing
to buy a new 997 RS circa 102 K
to change from one to the other 35K + ......
I was in a 997 GT3 RS at the weekend going around Brands - great car ,easy to drive
the brakes are superb, sounds good, roomier and the interior is more spacious but ...
and there is a but ....it is not worth the extra money from the 996 RS to trade up !
from a MK1 or 2 it is ( IMHO)!
now if it had a 3.8 egine ,with the DSG Gearbox it would be very special !
2 of our flock are buying new 997 GT3 RS and will keep their 996 RS
see what they say !

lol that 997 GT3 time is highly dubious. The actual recorded time for an 997 RS is 7.42. Walter has set a 7.43 for the 996 RS in MOTOR mag. So in his hands the new car is 1 sec a lap quicker when he had to find more time (not that I'm suggesting the 997 isn't faster). So it's perfectly viable that a 996 RS with uprated damping would show a standard 997 RS a clean pair of heals.
www.supercars.net/PitLane?viewThread=y&gID=3&fID=0&tID=10073&bottom=0
Can someone point to where the 7.39 time came from as I believe it may have been deduced from Walter making an off hand comment about the car being 7 seconds faster than the old one or something. I don't for a moment see how the standard car would be 3 secs faster than the same generation RS.
I want to see Horst von Saurma get both the old
GT3 RS and the New one both on the same tires and conditions
and see how much time difference there is
I dont think Porsche will ever let this happen
Johnny
I think when a car test is run by a magazine both cars should
be equal
Look at the Stradale against the GT3 RS on Top Gear ( what a joke )
same lap time ( Bollo*)... I went round SPA in a 360 CS and the RSs were blitzing the car
on every lap
Talking about talking car values up I think the 993 RS brigade and 964 RS owners
need to look in the mirror before they accuse the GT3 owners
It shameful the way you lot have carried on the last 3 years !( he he )

Tim - agreed. The way they carry on on the PCGB site should be outlawed. I blame them for my in-ability to buy either a 64RS or a 93RS at a sensible price for track days this year. The prices have got silly IMO.
Think I might buy a Caterham instead.......

Except for the tiny difference between PS2's and the PSCup tyres ?
How many seconds are they worth ?
Of course, one couldn't possibly fit them to a 996 .....
I am sorry guys, do you really think a Manthay 996RS conversion is akin to a tricked Skyline ??
