There are many GT3s out there with after market (shake your teeth out) suspension that still have all the usual 996 flaws, still to be repaired.

A basic list would be shocks, springs, all bushes and arms, radiators, aircon rads and pipework, exhaust manifold bolts, all clamps, cats, silencers, calipers disks and pads, clutch and flywheel, gearbox syncros, LSD plates, bearings, drive shafts - to name the minimum.

And that's before you contemplate the cost involved in giving a GT3 engine a general freshen up.
you think all the above needs replacing on most gt3's out there??

Certainly not on the rather nice RS at 911V biggrin

Nice buy for someone hope he or she enjoys the GT3 experience.
As said it wont cost more than any other GT3 if a part needs replacing it needs replacing no matter what the mileage is.
As said consumables on 996 GT3s have probably been refreshed by now
unless its been stored away in a gargage a not used often.
Looks like Gt3s are selling again after a quiet period from some of the well know suppliers of good cars.
Lets hope it sticks around so we can check its progress
Good luck and enjoy to the new owner.

If you wanted a GT 911 to do a fair bit of track work in and not have to worry about reducing the value I'd say it would be hugely tempting. You take a risk with any Porsche, and although the GT engines are better thought of than the 'ordinary' ones (no offence anyone), the flip side is that rebuilds are that much more. Any of us could get landed with a big bill whatever the mileage - you take your chances.

Had this come up four months ago I would have been seriously tempted, and am now thinking what else I could have bought with the money I saved! Hey ho.

Yes if my original statement is taken in context of a high mileage 996s, which are now between 5 - 11 years old. Many of these will need some or all of the items on the list attending to.
Sure as hell if you are buying one with 180K on it then checks need to be made!

Conversely, there are many low mileage examples that have been totally pampered and require nothing doing at all.

I did not use the words "all" and "most" - read it again tongue out

Blimey
Only just seen all of these posts. I am Roger and I owned the 180,000 mile GT3 which has attracted so much comment.

What can I add? It was and is an entirely honest car. Driven daily in the UK and across much of Europe, it has been cherished and driven in equal measure. I never put it on a track, and only once put it in a field! I have to correct Henry in that the repair was undertaken by Porsche at 27,000 miles. Since that time it has covered another 153,000 miles without blemish.

Original PCCB discs and pads. A new clutch at about 140,000 miles. Alternator was changed in January 2011. Fearnsport looked after the car pretty well all of the 5 years that I owned it. Not much I can add to that, the guys are brilliant and fully understood what I wanted and needed the car to do. I haven't added up the bills over 5 years, but they are far, far less than anyone would ever imagine.

Hi again to GT2, I recall the trip that we took that lunch time! Delighted that you are still around. And yes, the previous car was indeed the Phoenix M Coupe ( sold with a mere 160K on the clock)

So, I've just become the happy owner of a basalt black 997 GT3 with PCCB and clubsport spec. It looks stunning and is just about a fair replacement for the 996.

To whoever has bought the 996, thank you. Look after her, she has been a seriously good mate since June 2006. Driven daily, she never, ever let me down, always brought a smile each morning and delivered me back each evening. Can't say more than that.

Very impressive durabillity figures. Sounds like PCCB was the more economic option in comparison to a few sets of steels.

Doing the miles was easy! My business takes me all over the UK and into mainland Europe. I hate flying (well with a GT3 in the garage there isn't much incentive to learn how to love Easyjet) so just took the car everywhere.

I was concerned about the mileage mounting up, but as the milestones came and rapidly went, there was no need to be worry about it. Once past 100K there was also a real interest in seeing just how many miles it would actually do.

Andy and Matt at Fearnsport were the key to all of this. As long as they gave it the thumbs up, off we went for another 10K miles. The vehicle is absolutely bomb proof for everyday motoring. It averaged about 26-27 to the gallon, used rear tyres about every 15K miles, loads more on the fronts. It never needed any oil. I had one puncture, 2 sets of wiper blades and a grin that lasted for ever!!

Well, if that isn't evidence of the build quality of the the 996GT3, I cant imagine a better endorsement!

Perhaps I will just have to keep mine until I am senile and they take my license away smile

I somehow doubt that - it'll be a very rare occasion. But yes, there probably will be a next time in the distant future.
