So where are you right now, still in Barcelona?
Yuppy, just about to log-off as its an early start to Cannes, then Grasse tomorrow. Day after will be Lake Como area, location TBD. Then Switzerland by Thursday and Black Forest on Friday. Fingers crossed I'll have Internet and I can upload more piccies, at the end of each day.

:-) Indeedy.

Actually in the spirit of full disclosure. My wifey is taking 95% of the pictures, but she is a little upset I am uploading before she can pass them via Adobe Lightroom or something.

Oh Lordy Lordy, we put on a few extra kilos consuming cakes in Spain. I'll dig out some more piccies soon. I love English desserts but the continental folks put us to shame. What do they they think if they ever step into a Greggs and see...

...compared to the patisserie shops on the continent.

Day 9 - Barcelona to Côte d'Azur
Sorry for no update last night. Yesterdays blast from Barcelona to the Côte d'Azur was little tiring. All good and we did 700kms over 7hrs. The first part of the journey was good, as was the part beyond Montpellier. The in-between motorway was ok, but we have been so spoilt in Spain it seemed a tad boring.

Stayed overnight at Le Foulon Country House: http://www.le-foulon.com/default.asp Run by Nick and Mia.

Superb read, I'd love to do something like this smile

Did you have it all planned in advance, hotels booked etc? Or did you just book as you went along?

Sorry if you've covered this already

A piece of software which enables you to build itineraries. Excellent piece of kit, I use it a lot.

my last years outing for the 996tt was from London to Dubrovnik via France, Holland (passing through) Germany stop over, down to Graz, stop over, Split, stop over, Dubrovnik, ferry to italy overnight to Bari then to Milano Marittima, north to Lake Como and Lugano Swiss, back via Lake Geneva stay over, stopping in Beaune , france for some wine tasting...
3200 miles 3 weeks, 1 high speed fine, saw 175mph for about 2 seconds, Furka Pass was the best road of the trip closely followed by St Gottard.

Day 10 - Morning
Based on a recommendation for a good viewing spot of the Alps we followed a short route (D3 & D7) from Nick (NickVyse). Awesome roads and the view was spectacular.

Day 10 Nice to Lake Como - 650km 7hrs

Special mention of the E74 is needed though.

Excellent road for most of it, except they closed a major tunnel. The signs mentioned the road was completely closed but there was a tiny gap with a small access road to the side of the tunnel. Although this was also "closed". We waited for a few minutes and then a car with a local plate took the side road so we followed. It was a gravel road that ran parallel to the tunnel. So far, so good.

Then the few cars that were using the road started to wave at us to stop and we then saw why. A massive hill full of potholes. We had come this far so I just slowed down to a couple of MPH and took up the whole road while I navigated the holes. The video should be be very interesting, both for the very fast sweepers and our off-road excursion.

Day 10 - Evening at Lake Como

Lake Como is spectacular. Although we had a lot of traffic and rain. When it cleared the views were amazing. The weather was 27 degrees a few weeks ago. Now they have snow on the side of the hills overlooking the lake.
